I switched my auto from a 6500k to my led in the tent two days ago… she’s been pretty limp since and doesn’t seem to be using up water. Can a change in light stunt or kill her?
By not using up the water, I mean the bag stays wet (she’s in coco/perlite) and runoff ppm is within 100 points of what it went in at
checked on her this morning, seems she’s dead. I don’t think she can come back now. But if anyone has any idea on whether or not it was the light change, please let me know so I can save the next one.
What’s the ppfd of both lights. You may have switched to a different light spectrum as well, which will screw things up pretty bad.
Weak. I’m at work now, but I guess this means put autos right under the LED after it sprouts. I did the same thing to my photos and they never got set back. Think I should put the auto back under the 6500k T5? Or is she just done?
I think the reason she died was because you transplanted it too soon and it’s too big of a container for that small plant. Next time keep them in your solo cup until you have to water them every other day or every day and that’s when your roots will be fully established and when you transplant into a bigger pot they will immediately start growing and taking over that new space. I know that autos are not like photos and you only transplant it once from solo into its final container, so the way I just explained is the best way to do it in my book
Photos wise The best way to do it is also from solo cup into a 1 gallon plastic pot, wait until you have to water every other day or everyday but I wait until I have to water every other day, then I transplant into a 2 gallon plastic pot and to wait until need water every other day and then into my final 5 gallon smart pot. If my final container is a 3 gallon smart pot, then I go from the 1 gallon plastic pot straight into 3 gallon smart pot. If using 7 gallon smart pot as my final container then I go from one gallon plastic pot into a three gallon plastic pot and into my final seven gallon smart pot.
I hope this helps
I never transplanted her… everything I’ve read says start autos in their final container. I planted her after germination straight into this 3 gallon fabric pot. She got that big from just a seed in there…
I did learn my lesson with photos though. I’ll always start small with those haha
If it’s a small 600-1000 series light, then that 6500 t5 is probably gonna be a lot better. I would maybe start them on the led and then transfer them to that T5 for flowering.
I mean that’s a pretty decent budget light. I read some pro grower reviews and they’re all positive. I’m just guessing that t5 is 3 times more powerful than that King LED. So I would veg under the King and Flower under the T5
If anyone is looking for a good budget light, here’s one that doesn’t produce any heat and has a nice outer coverage instead of intense middle like most inexpensive LED lights do.

Blurple yuck
You really think that 24 watt 6500k T5 is stronger than the 1500LED? I obviously need to do more research on lighting
I’m sold on that second one. I’ll probably order that haha thanks man
Just got home… as crazy as it is (to me) she’s stood back up and is perky again. Took 3 or 4 days, and I’m sure my yield will be cut in half, but she’s back
I have two of those 6500k lights… they’re only 24 watts each. which means running both at the same time would save about 3/4 the cost I’m running that LED at. Is that realistically the best path then?
I just bought that light. It hasn’t arrived yet so I’m wondering what you think about it.
Thank you for these links, I’ve been noticing that my budget grow lights dont cover my 4x4 tent evenly. So I’ve been thinking about switching lighting equipment to get an even spectrum of light. Which one do you recommend for a 4x4 tent?
I thought it did pretty well… It’s gotten my photo to a pretty decent size. I will say though that I’m using a 2x4 tent at the moment and I can only get about half of it covered. So I’m going to pick up this other light that was recommended above and will probably run both haha
You’re very welcome! As far as which light I recommend for your 4x4…if you’re on a budget than get VIPARSPECTRA whichever one you can afford that covers the whole footprint of your 4x4 tent or get two of the XS1500’s and that will do the job. If you have a little more money to spend then I highly recommend Advanced Platinum LED P300 two of them. If you have some money to spend and you are just looking for the best possible yield then you will never go wrong with Black Dog LED PhytoMAX-2 1000 which will maximize your grow to the fullest but because it’s such an intense light you gonna want to supplement CO2 and raise your nutrients about 20% to 30% higher because when you are using intense light and more nutrients you will need to supplement it with CO2 for everything to work properly and you will get 30% to 40% higher yield. If you only provide more nutrients and intense light, your plans will not be able to utilize all of it without the proper combination of all three so if one of those are missing then the plans will not be able to utilize any of them. Here’s a little more info on that subject
Black Dog LED just came out with their newest light replacing their PhytoMAX-2 with PhytoMAX-3 models that provide more PPFD (More intense light) with the same wattage and now you can dim them, and they also got a bit smaller and lighter. Made in USA with 5 year warranty. These lights were designed specifically for cannabis so they are tuned for exactly what we need.
Your best choice would be Black Dog LED PhytoMAX-3 24SP or 20SP whichever one you can afford or think would be best for you. If you’re not going to supplement CO2 then don’t get such an intense light because you’ll be wasting your energy for nothing because your plants will not be able to utilize all of it.
I forgot to mention that if you are going to add CO2 and you don’t want to get a tank, let me know I will give you a recipe to make your own and it’ll be very cheap and it definitely works. I’m using it right now as we speak in my tent and it works extremely well. You just have to make sure you get CO2 meter so you don’t gas yourself to death lol. I highly recommend getting this meter because if records your CO2 discharge by minute or by hour or by day or by week, however you want to set up that chart. Very useful and very affordable and very accurate. It’s the least expensive and the best meter you’ll find, trust me I’ve done days of research trying to find the right one and bought many of them until I landed on this one
