Hello! I’m a first time grower and need help figuring out why my leafs are curling downward and appearing to look thin. The plant has been growing slow but maintains to get taller and produce more tops but kills off new growth within days. The leaves look promising when they first start to grow out but once they reach a certain point of their growth they start to get curly, the tips turn brown, yellow, and kill the growth. What I’ve also noticed is that the stem is very skinny and has red parts to it where the new growth was dying due to stress. I addressed this issue by transplanting it but it’s still looking stressed.
Welcome to the community @520grower ! You need to change the light first, friend. This light is not suitable for growing, the plant stretches very much, it does not have enough light.
Thank you! I figured this might be the reason because the only source of light it’s getting is from my window sill. Would this cause the plant to be stressed out since it’s only receiving light in one direction? I just bought a growing tent with full spectrum LED lights, so hopefully this will work better than the window sill. Might you have advise for growing with tents and LED’s?
Hi @520grower, welcome to the community! As @Sedrik777 says, you need a light. That won’t definitely work.
The plant has stretched too much already, you will get a slim stem and that is a no go.
When you get the tent and the lights, you need to put the light closer to the plant, a good trick is to place your hand under the light for like 5 seconds. If it is too much heat then it is for the plant too.
Another thing is the direction of the leaves. If they are pointing up then they are to far from the light, if the leaves are kind of droopy, then it is too close.
Thank you @NicoZ! Yours and @Sedrik777‘ information is very helpful. I’m still trying to figure out this practice and new interest of mine so I really appreciate the help.
@NicoZ Hello, I did not say in my message that this plant will help another lamp. I pointed out to him the reason why it does not grow and in general this light is not suitable for growing. Of course, this plant can not be helped by anything. If a person does not realize this himself, then it is still too early for him to grow something. You need to first read how to do this and under what it grows. You can’t grow a plant with someone else’s brains.
Upgraded my set up to a tent with full spectrum 600w LEDs and I could instantly see improvement with my plants growth within a day. The leaves look very healthy and have not shown any signs of decay with even more promising signs of stability. The plant can support itself with out the assistance of the lame stick I had in there lol. I’ll post pictures of it soon when it really starts to kick off. Thank you for your help!
