Is it a bad thing to take of fan leafs with 2 weeks to harvest, with Autos? Most of the bud site's were covered, I defoliated 3 of my plants and opened up for light, am I wrong?

This is the out come, hope I have done the right thing by defoliation,

Lemon Kush Auto after defoliation

Bruce Banner Auto after defoliation
With just less than 2 weeks to go I think “and I’m only a beginner well fourth run” , and bit out of my league, but trying to open taking fans of near the end and the cosintration goes to the bud s more now, please any advice appreciated @canagen @Outdoorman @TheOriginalJ.C

Take only what is necessary is the rule I’ve been told. Those fan leaves are solar panels that absorb light and convert that light and energy into bud production. Take some but not all.

doesn’t look like you went crazy. so i would say it looks fine.

I know that you guys don’t like to top your autos - which makes sense to me.

I’m not growing autos, so i can’t really speak from xp - but i would suggest to LST the main stems next run.

then you will get a more even canopy and can up the light intensity on the lower buds also. which should get you a better yield result overall.

My rule is if it is damaged, covering bud sites and unable to tuck it under, impeding air flow or just not receiving any light of consequence, it gets clipped off. The older and larger fan leaves close to the bottom can go too. What you’ve done looks good.

I can’t speak about the defoliation @Deanroche but what @ninjagrow is saying is what I was asking you a while back about, why you hadn’t tied the main stem down? so I would only recommend the same! as that seems to be the consensus from what I’ve read… but those girls look good buddy :sunglasses:

I’m about ready to start LST do you guys think she’s big enough yet? She’s 15cm and just starting her 5th node am I good to go???

Nah bro you’re good but make sure every one you pull is absolutely necessary bro, anytime you defoliate it’s like giving your plant an amputation. It has to heal, but at this point it’s in endgame mode fattening and getting super terpy! :mechanical_arm::mechanical_arm:

Cheers @canagen, there was so much like for a good while I being trying to tuck them in by the was to many, you’ve been helping me pal on lots of issues even with this grow on the same topic, but my logic tells me that I only open the sites up to
more light, but next run I will LST, the next run @ninjagrow,
Plus #growing-help @BashCrandicoot11, cheers for the advice, thank you guys I will update you soon on how they are going,

@ninjagrow is right on. When I start LST, the first stem I tie down is the main after it is about a foot tall. I like to leave space at the bottom for watering and general maintenance. Once the bottom shoots start stretching out, I tie those down in the opposite direction of the main stem. This allows them to receive more light and stretch out. It also allows light into the bottom portion of the main stem and exposes what needs to be snipped off or tuck out of the way.

When the bottom shoots stretch out, I adjust tie downs until the canopy is fairly even. The tie downs remain on until after the flowering stretch. Cheers.

@TheOriginalJ.C, that looks real good and healthy.

Here you can see how my main stem is angled:

The side shoots were tied down in the opposite direction:

Tie downs were removed at end of stretch and plant was allowed to spread out under her own weight:

Hope this helps.

Yu need a killer bottom skirt clean up, all those teeny tiny bud sites won’t mature into big nugs they’ll simply take from your bigger buds… clean everything that isn’t blooming like your top sites, rule of thumb when knowing what to keep: look to your most productive areas your smallest bud should be similar to the biggest bud in structure and maturity, if it looks weak and young and your plant is mid flower chop those bud sites on your lower areas of the branch those are energy stealers… but she’s a beauty my guy defoliate and let he maxxx out foreal…

Yes I know. I just don’t do it in one shot. Thanks for the tip though.

By the way @Deanroche, I’ve read you mention you are still waiting on some of the ingredients to complete your mix. What are they? Some of those ingredients have a release rate counted in months, not days or weeks.

No not at all. I keep forgetting that autos don’t grow as tall as photos so what I say usually refers to photos. Your bends look good. My only comment would be leaves touching the soil. You could invite fungal or bug issues. I use a twig or something to keep it off the surface. And yes, it is better to do bends when the plant is thirsty. I once did a bend and the whole top just snapped off in my hands leaving me with that stupid stoner look and wondering what the hell I just did. It wasn’t funny then but it’s hilarious to me now.
