I’m new at this. Very 1st indoor from seed. 2 have just broke through soil. What type of lighting now? Regular light? Black light? Grow light? Any advice is appreciated.
hello and welcome to the community and congrats on your new hobby as well as your seeds breaking soil. hope you enjoy it here and dont hesitate to ask any questions ya got, everyone here is very helpful. As for lighting i use an led grow light from start to finish but there other options like low watt seedling lamps and stuff. but since your first starting out i would suggest going simple at first with a decent grow light and a tent unless you have a grow space already and some nutrients for your plants just to start out with and youll improve your grow setup as future grows go on if growing becomes something you enjoy as it can become costly with name brand equipment if going all in.
Seedling stage ya wont need much light intensity i want to say around 100 ppfd which most light models will give a ppfd footprint chart to help guide certain height levels or power levels to achieve desired ppfd range. sorry for the long speech lol but short answer would be having a grow light on them once they break soil
Thank you so much. Yes, my new hobby. I have a 4x4x8 grow tent with led grow light. I put the seeds once they germinated into jiffy pots. 10 plants in all. I put them under a black light. 3 have broke soil.
you have a decent size tent and depending on pot sizes and length of veg time you should be able to fit 10 no issues but if your going to do say 5 gallon pots 6 might be the max depending on pot shape. As for the black light ive never used one for growing and dont know how well it works on seedlings but hopefully another community member can speak on that
Unfortunately black lights are not suitable as a main light they only have very small amounts of usable light in their spectrum and you will probably get stretchy seedlings. switching over to the led regardless of what type it is will help more
