Maybe this is something that’s not encourage as what I’m doing is probably a waste of time but my curiosity got the best of me and now I’m committed to find out what will happens…
A few weeks back a friend gifted my some weed he grew himself. The weed was full of seeds not the best I had but it’s the best he can do with his situation and outdoor grow space. Fast forward 3 weeks later after I finished the bit of weed I decided I will germinate all of the seeds I collected from his gift and buy a indoor tent setup and see if anything will happen… now I have 2 plants sitting in my grow tent…
Gender: Unknown
Plants: 2
Strain: Unknown
auto or poto?: Unknown
Grow area: indoor 3Ă—4 tent
Lighting: Mars Hydro ts1000
Soil: Black Swallow Living soil with Biochar
Nutrients: havent used any yet but i do like to be prepared so check out the pics for the stuff i have so far but everything is still sealed as i havent used anything but living soil with biochar so far.
date of germination/when i dropped them into water: Feb 2 2021 sometime in the morning.
Feb 4th: they got their tails so i planted them in soil.
Today is Feb 14th and its about 2 inches tall. look at pictures and tell me if anything looks off. ive never grown using a grow tent before im new to all this any tips would be appreciated!
My goal is to make something better out of what he gave me so i can return his mason jar that was once full of weed not empty. Would be nice to see a good reaction from him!
First let me welcome you to the community! From the web log into Jane and hit this button and share photos so we can see the plants and your arsenal of nutrients ect! We would be happy to take a look for you @BudWiser
thanks for the heads up about the uploading pictures i was trying and wasnt able to on my phone so i had to figure this out on the computer lol. i had to send myself the pics and then upload it anyways pics are up now and any tip would be nice.
Nice setup bro! I also use the same fabric pots myself and love em. I see you have them in the large pots already, watering can be a real challenge when they are in a very large pot I normally start off in a 8oz styrofoam cup to make things easier but it can be done this way as well as long as your vigilant. At that size they will thrive off of 10-20ml of water at a time, depends but roughly every 18-24 hours depending on the environment. If you don’t have a syringe I strongly recommend one especially being in such large pots. Also when you water them slowly pour the water around the base of the stem so the water absorbs and travels straight down which the roots will drink what’s immediately available and when they search for water they will follow the water downwards ultimately building a solid foundation for the plant in the future and it encourages rapid root development as well. I’ve never used the nutrient lineup you have but I’ve read about it and will definitely do the trick. When it comes time to start nutrients (end of week 4 above soil) or at least 5 nodes, always start with a quarter of what the bottle says to see how the plants react to it and after 1 weeks or so increase to 50% then as long as they like it bump it up to the bottles normal dosage. That way you won’t burn the plants up with nitrogen ect. And at that stage with a seedling make sure you keep the humidity high (if you have a humidifier) in the 50-60% rh levels. Ideal temp is 77-78 degrees, with those factors met you should be on cruise control until week 4. Misting them with water a couple times a day is also great for them. Last but not least make sure you have a ph meter pen to adjust your water for EVERY watering too, soil based medium needs the water in the 6.0-7.0 range I normally aim for 6.3-6.5. If the water is too far of your plant won’t be able to take up every nutrient you provide and can create nutrient lockout creating a sick looking plant and yellowing/ discoloration of the leaves. Hope this help bro, and best of luck @BudWiser. Cool name too by the way lol
Thank you this setup has cost alot more than i realized lol just saw my creditcard bill yesterday trying to pretend i didnt see it hopefully when these plants grow up big and strong everything will become worth it!
Ive never grown before as it wasnt legal for a long time but i live in canada now and its very much legal here so im excited to get this going! however sadly out of 8 seeds germinated i managed to somehow kill those seeds that sprouted tails once they entered this rich soil and only 2 survived to this stage.
i did start in a smaller pot (you can see the tiny pots in the background in some of the pictures and i do also have biodegradable nurcery pots too but havent used those) but i may have transplanted too quickly? im new and have almost 0 idea what im doing. i do have a syringe but i have recently switched over to the vivosun sprayer that thing is amazing if you dont have one yet! same company as the pot im using BTW the pots are 5 Gallon square. Anyways this sprayer has a misting option and the mist is super gentle and i have been spraying the plants directly and hopng the water drips down the plant from its head to its toes? am i doing it wrong? should i not spray directly? as for PH water i have been using my aquarium’s dirty water as the water itself. this trick i learned from my mom growing up… not sure if this is recommended or encouraged maybe its some old wives tales/tricks i dont know but its what i water all my plants and so far no issues. when i ordered soil from “Black Swallow” i told them im new and to sell me whatever they recommend for a good first growth and thats what they sent me with my soil. lol not sure if i was supposed to use some of those things before i added the plant or anything but i didnt add anything but some extra biochar somewhere in the middle lair. as for Temp and humity its around 80 F 55-70% in humidity sometimes higher if i dont open the tent for too long to air it out or when i have the humidifier on… i have removed the humidifier since seeing humidity level being over 80% and its now on outside of the tent 2 feet away. Right now all i have is 1 tiny cheap fan cirulating the air in there but on wednesday amazon will finally be delivering AC Infinity CLOUDLINE T4(https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B06ZXWN3BG/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) so hopefully the circulation will get better. i will also be getting some more fans to place around the sides or in each corner when the plants get a bit bigger.. (i dont want provide too much wind and hurt them and also drive my electric bill up and alert the landlord lol.)anyways ill update you with more pictures of the stuff i mentioned and thank you for your tips so far ill wait 3-4 more weeks and see where im at then. ANY idea if theres a way to tell if these are male or female? how long till they start showing?
You definitely have invested a lot to manage your grow and with time you be an avid grower for sure. Honestly I wouldn’t use an compression sprayer for watering seedlings because you have no idea how much water is actually making it into the soil. I hope it does work for you but chances are symptoms of over watering are most likely going to hold you back later when it matters the most. Misters are great for seedlings to mist the plant itself but water to the soil is best done precisely at this stage. And with the roots only being a maximum of 6 inches deep in the soil the mister is going to saturate only the top 3 inches of the soil and half the roots won’t have any water to rely on, possibly causing them to curl back upwards in search of water. Any moisture at the edge of the pot will also go stagnate and face the fear of mold growth that will also cause problems in the future when the root system expands. Syringe at this stage is best my friend. I wish you the best of luck with your grow and future grows👍 @BudWiser
Okay i will use a syringe from now on again i want to do this right thats why i invested what i invested so far. This friend is a good friend and hes going though some tough time right now and it would be nice to return what he gave me the best way i possibly can. So everything looks normal to you? do i just water for the next 3-4 weeks? i’ll get closer and use syringe. isnt watering once a day too much? i was told water only when dry.. im practicing the “lifting up the pot to see if water is needed technique” also im hearing its best to let them get super thirsty before giving water? is that for later when they are bigger?
Yeah the lifting/weight check technique is good to use as well. If it feels light and you can poke your finger into the soil 2 inches away from the stalk to your second knuckle and it feels dry then water. That’s how I do it as well. Allowing a wet/dry cycle is best. Depends on your temps and environment for watering. I’m using 8oz styrofoam cups and in 24-36 hours it’s almost so dry it’s showing a slight droop in the fan leaves and then I water and within 1 hour they are happier than ever and the next day it truly shows with it’s growth. Ph your water and if you have the funds I highly recommend “bioroot” for the first 4 weeks. Pic below.
@BudWiser These are my current girls in veg using the above bioroot and watering techniques, and my gelato I grew last on my last run I harvested dec 20th
Bio Root for the next 3 weeks? is it good to keep going? sure ill try to find some. being in canada sadly its sometimes hard to find the same item from the US. ill look more into this. also any difference between the 0-1-1 your using and the 1-1-1? which is better?
Cant wait to get close to your level! that all looks amazing! i cant wait! where do you get your seeds? i should start another 2 plants as my limit is 4 plants and im thinking i should atleast guarantee 2 females out of all this lol. as of right now i have 0 clue what mine is going to turn out to be.
I actually never knew they had a 1-1-1 line, just researched it and I’d recommend the 1-1-1 as it can still be used immediately when they sprout. Same formula that I use just has a small amount of nitrogen added to it that will speed up growth (I’ve been using earth worm castings as my early nitrogen supplement) And yes bioroot can be used throughout the entire grow up to the flowering flush 2 weeks before harvest like base nutrients. Early use promotes rapid lush roots and usage in late veg or flower it keeps the roots really healthy and can increase nutrient uptake for the plant ultimately providing more of what the plant needs to grow bigger flowers @BudWiser
Thank you, wish I had more space to work with with that last grow but I made the 2x2 area work, just made sure I trained it enough to fan it out and fill the room as much as I could before flower @BudWiser
