Soil + coco + perlite mix

Hi guys,

I will be mixing my next batch of soil in the next couple of days and although my previous mix was ok (80% Ocean Forest + 20% perlite) I was thinking about adding coco coir to the ratio to make it lighter and easier for the roots to breathe.

Anyone has been experiencing with this type of mix in an organic setup? I was thinking 40% soil, 40% coco coir, 10% EWC and 10% perlite.

Looking forward to your feedback.
Cheers

I would reduce the coco content to 10% as the Ocean Forest already has peat moss. While coco has good water retention it can work to your disadvantage. Instead I would up the perlite to 30% or better as well as the EWC as that would be the main source of microbes. That is if you are not planning on using bottled nutrients of course.

You are right, I’m not using any bottled nutes only dry amandments (gaia green) and compost teas.

So if I follow correctly, I should do 40% soil, 30% EWC, 20% perlite and 10% coco… right?

Sounds right. Your worm castings are the key to the whole setup.
