Topping help/question

A friend of mine came by to take a look at my clone. He took it upon himself to top my plant when I left the room for a moment. This is my first grow and Im not experienced. Did he do it correctly?

Hi there and welcome. I’m not sure if your friend did it right or not though the ‘after’ result looks a bit unbalanced and the cut (or cuts?) look to be a bit too close to the node. One should leave a 1-2 cm stump to avoid cutting too close to the new growth from the node. It should be done at least after the 3rd node and often after the 5th depending on preference and the plant shape sought. This is a very good and clear article. That said, even if not perfectly topped, I’m sure your plant will recover with plenty of TLC

The plant will definitely recover and continue to grow. If it had been my colleague, he would now be banned, that kind of thing is not appropriate.

Agreed on all fronts. It’s lack of respect to touch someone else’s grow.

I agree with everyone else. He should have topped your plant without your permission even if his intentions were good. But to be honest the only time I’ve topped a plant was accidentally by being too aggressive in my LST. So actually I have never intentionally topped a plant. Accidentally I’ve topped many. But if I were to intentionally top a plant I would do it in the early stages of veg when the internode are symmetrical I would think you would get a better result. Your plant was topped when the internode spacing was alternating so I would assume that your plant was more mature, and I don’t think that topping the plant like that is going to benefit you much or at all. Because instead of two new shoots growing off it you’re only going to get one shoot coming off it and I do believe it’s going to be a smaller shoot than if you didn’t top at all. I’m going to be following your post because I want to see how it comes out.

It should do just fine. The nodes being staggered the way they are is simply because it is a clone from an older plant so don’t worry about that part affecting it too much. Yes it was a dick move if someone else did it but it shouldn’t negatively affect it besides maybe a few days for the smaller growth sites to catch up.

It looks well recovered and will become nice and bushy. The training also looks very good
