When switching from veg to flower, should I go from 18/6 to 12/12 immediately or incrementally go from 18/6 to 12/12 over a few days or weeks? I’m in the 6th week of the veg stage right now.
Just go straight from 18/6 to 12/12
I have done both ways. The idea behind feathering from 18/6 to 12/12 over time is that the plant will stretch less.
I grew 2 phenos of harlequin earlier this year and did the long transition time with #1 and the straight switch over with #2. The results were that #1 did not stretch. I mean at all. the plant was highly trained and topped, vegged for 8 weeks and feathered over the last 4 weeks to 12/12. The plant finished roughly 12" tall total height above the ground. #2 however was roughly 18" tall before the switch to 12/12. She did stretch. She finished out at about 28" tall.
The thought is that the node spacing stays tight and therefore the buds stay denser. On top of the fact that if you are limited in your grow space to keep the canopy down. This example isn’t really the best because I know the Harlequin doesn’t stretch TOO much compared to some other strains.
I ran a test on three of my trees. one switched to sun up sun down with a internet light controller that did amazing no rocket growing. The other 12 to 12 right off grew about a foot taller after the hard cut over. lastly a hard cut over but I cranked the light to full blast and brought it down about 30 inches away from the plant resulting in the best grow ive had and will continue to use this cut over with the lights.
in my experience if you give them 48hrs of darkness before the 12/12 they will show their sex quicker as well
Have you seen many herms with this method? Just curious.
I switched over all at once and had flowers developing in one 1 week
Not at all my friend i stand on that
What about 24 to 12? Straight flip or incrimental?
When do you change lighting to 12-12? And when do you change lighting from white to red?
Change your lighting to 12/12 and spectrum at the same time; when your plants are 6-8 weeks old. I think an older healthier plant is best, so if it were me I would wait until they were 8 weeks old, but I’m sure some people do it sooner.

This link will show you the best spectrums to have at different grow intervals. If you have a light that allows you to change your red, blue & white intensity’s you can really take advantage of this.
Depends on when you want to flower. You can flower as early as when your plant is sexually mature (like 2months?) Or you can keep it in veg for as long as you want. The longer you veg, the bigger your flower. Plants can double or even triplle in size durinf flower so use that to gage your environment you need in flower. You want to make sure you have a well strictured plant and that its healthy. Look for preflowers to see if your plant is sedually mature. My plants veged for 12 weeks because they were stunted by problems I needed to figure out first. Also… what size pots are you in?
And switch to red light at the same time you switch to 12/12. Its my first grow and I just switched to 12/12 the other day. Switched to red lights about a week ago.
As Redwood had said, you can flower at any time. Some do 12/12 from seed. I judge maturity when the secondary nodes start alternating. At that point, I can veg longer or flip straight to 12/12 for flowering.
