Weird seedling

Hey everyone, I hope everyone is all right.

I’m trying to grow this brick weed seedling (pics at the bottom), this was one of the only 5 ones that germinated out many dozens of seeds and the only one that has broken soil due to not being killed by my lack of experience.

However this seedling is very strange, while it’s stem seems to be all right and a nice shade of green, the cotyledons are shriveled and yellow and upwards.
Also today is day 6 since it broke soil and it still looks like this. Stem seems to be growing a little but nothing else.

I’m doing a very casual grow, letting it sit in my window while there is sun and then shining a 9w led light which I will replace with a 28w full spectrum led light I bought and should be arriving today.

I only watered her a bit yesterday, because the soil still felt wet from the soak I did before planting the seed. Yesterday it felt very dry and even so I gave her only a bit of water, not slight even close to run off in the saucer. Soil feels very dry again, should I water her until run off? I was afraid of over watering because I think that’s what killed the other seeds I germinated.

I can’t control the humidity or temperature, but the place where I live is considered a prime region for growing cannabis, so I think these are all right. Humidity can be up to 80% or more here, temps range from 25C to 30C+ in the summer.

So, thats it, Id like help if you can tell me whats wrong with this seedling or what am I doing wrong.

It’s brick weed so I don’t know the strain or sex.

No notes yet, soil is a mix of substrate (pinus bark, sand for substrate, vermiculite and vermicompost) and earth fertilized with manure and castor pie.

Stop watering completely, let the soil dry. Seedlings don’t need a lot of water. At this stage the root system isn’t very developed, and most of its water intake is going to be through the leaves. That’s why most people do light mists. As the soil dries from top to bottom, it’s promoting the root system to reach down further to find the water source. Also you are going to want to use that LED light you have coming in. The one you are using now won’t be strong enough when it enters the vegetative stage.

Thanks friend! Ill put it to use as soon as it gets here! Also, I should only do light misting, right? how often should I do it? Should I spray it directly on the plant? Thanks for the help!

Spray just around the base of the stem, I did every other day to every two days. You will hear a lot about wet and dry cycles when watering.

Oh nice, thats pretty much what I did yesterday, except I used a spoon to get the water to the soil extra slow and very little water. What ammount of water should I use? Should top soil in the circle be soaked? Thanks for the help once again!

It’s not much at all, you’re just getting it damp. Honestly it’s just a gut feeling for me when I do things. I read a lot and watch a lot of videos. I probably been studying at least eight hours a day. These are my first two grows.

Nice! very good looking plants! Congratulations! I hope my weird seedling grows to become as nice aa yours. I have been scouring the internet for all info I can get, still dont really know why my seedling looks like it does on day 6, I thought I was overwatering it, but even after it got dry it still hasn’t really done anything. Maybe it’s just the age and genetics of brick weed, lets see what it does.

I’ll giver her water like you said every other day, lets see what it does. I also hope the new lamp will help.
thanks for the info friend!

Welcome to the community @yuri7, as @BashCrandicoot11 said light mist at the top soil and roughly 20ml of water around the stem is more than enough for a new seedling. Keep faith, I brought one back that looked just like yours for the first 10 days or so and it finally came around and now she’s in flower!

Thank you Mike! Good to know I’m not the only one who got a seedling like this, I’ll do that and hopefully she will thrive! I’ll keep you guys updated on what happens to her! New light just got here, she is already bathing in its glow, lets hope for the best!

Good luck!! Let us know how it goes @yuri7

`Thanks friend! I put her in the light and gave a bit of water yesterday, she seems to have grown a bit in the stem, but the cotyledons are still yellowish and shriveled. Stem looks green though, so I suppose she is all right.
She looks bigger from an angle because of how the dirt is around her.
In the last picture, do you think that’s a nutrient burn from when she was leaving the soil? Sure is weird.

I hope she pulls through but it seems like the top end isn’t going to open up with how dark it is. I would start germinating another seed if you have any just in case, but every now and then we get a dud seed that just won’t open up fully and I’m starting to think this is your case. @yuri7

yeah, thats probably the case, but I’ll keep trying. Unfortunately I lost my seeds, stored them wrong, mold festered. oh well, they were all brick weed seeds so no big loss, I’ll get some others soon and hopefully they germinate.

Best way to go is with feminized seeds if you can order them online

Unfortunately my country isnt 420 friendly yet. It’s risky to buy seeds in the internet, I’ll just have to make do with brick weed seeds for now
