When to transfer seedling? Special case?

Growing what I think is a purple sativa strain called candyland (don’t think auto, unsure if feminized, seed came from dispensary weed). Growing indoors.

For the record I’m a first time grower and this is more for fun. My main goal is to have the plant survive and produce something, doesn’t have to be the most scientifically dank buds to exist.

Seedling is doing pretty well besides being a bit tall. It started off with not enough light but now has more direct artificial light and a very sunny window plus a fan to encourage the stem to toughen. It is in quite a small container (half of a solo cup basically)

However today when I went to water the plant the soil was hydrophobic. Water Sat on top then after finally being absorbed basically all went straight out the holes in the bottom despite being quite dry. Plant isnt showing signs of being thirsty. Now the soil I used is pretty bad and I was quite unhappy with it (was something I bought for other plants and had extra). I bought good soil and some perlite and I’m wondering if maybe I should repot this? I’ve only got 1 set of full leafs, a second starting, and the round started leafs right now. It sounds too early but I’m wondering if it’s a good idea to try it since I’m probably in too small of a container with bad soil. Advice welcome.

If she isn’t showing signs of thirst she might be okay until she gets a few more leaves. As a rule of thumb, if the leaves extend outside the diameter of the pot then it’s time to transplant to a bigger pot. You want to make sure she’s strong and healthy enough to transplant, usually a few weeks old at least.

Welcome to the community! I hope this trial grow perks your interest enough that you do it again. I’m actually in love with growing things. I don’t think I’ll ever not grow again

oh yeah its very interesting and fun. The sprout broke ground 2 weeks ago so it has been around a little. I really want to transplant it but I think I am going to wait a bit longer

Welcome to the community @scrimweedy ! I always wait to the vegetative stage to be more sure the plants suffer less stress, and that is at least on wee 3. Make sure your main stem is growing steadily so you won’t need a guide in the future.
Remember that in seedling you don’t need to water much, and try to do it around the main stem and never on the leaves.
Later, you can use the weight method to water your plants, after watering until the water starts draining at the bottom, you check how heavy the pot is, and that will be your future reference.

My first plant I was impatient and transplanted like 2 1/2 weeks It’s preferred around week 4-5 and depending on your pot size personally I don’t think it stunted growth but you should always wait until week 4-5 if you don’t want to carefully take out your plant if it has a root ball try to save it and carefully place in new pot lightly water and give it a full week to bounce back your choice happy growing !

hmm maybe ill wait for now then, im leaving at 3.5 weeks for a week long vacation. A bit nervous to leave it in someone elses care right after repotting. Although im nervous about leaving it in its current container too. Need something for anxiety maybe lol

I plant my sprouted seeds right into 7-gallon fabric pots and when they get to their 1st set of leaves, I dig them up and rebury them deeper so only about 1.5-2 inches of the stem is above the medium.

You’re also doing well, having fans blowing. I use them even with sprouts to encourage strength. Make them dance!

Good luck to you on your grow. It seems a little foreign to you but, with a few YouTube videos, you’ll be up and running like a pro in no time. Happy Growing!

Do you have a picture?

yeah but the app didnt let me post.

Can you get some aloe vera spears from someone you know? If you take about a 2" piece and slice it open to reveal the gel inside, you can scoop that out and blend in to your water. It acts as a surfactant while also adding nutrients. Commercially, there is powdered aloe vera available on Amazon or perhaps local to you which you add to your water as well.

You can also put a drop or two of green dish soap in your water to help. HTH.

You need to use the desktop version to upload photos, doesn’t work in the mobile version.

well update: i was feeling frisky and just went for it. hopefully it enjoys its new non crap soil
