2022 will be my 6th year growing. 10 indoor grows and 2 outdoor are behind me. I’ve been on a journey to master this craft, and it has proven to be more of a challenge than I ever thought it could be. I’m pretty confident in my abilities now. My philosophy has always been to make continuous improvements, small changes (usually) between each grow to maximize the the yield my room can produce.
My room has gone through a remodel between almost every grow. I’ve set it up in many different ways looking for the most optimal way to use it. It’s 11.5 ft x 6 ft 10 inches and the ceiling is just over 6 ft from the floor. I’ve been remodeling it again and it’s close to 100% done. The new girls have been in there since Sunday. They’ve been held back waiting for the room to be ready. They should really get going now.
I had to change some things after getting my new lights and completing a grow with them. They’re so strong, I had to figure out a way to create more ceiling clearance and I’ve been able to get about 4 to 6 more inches. I’ll also be modifing my training regiment to make sure I’m keeping them from growing vertical until I switch to flower. As soon as they fill their 9 sq ft areas the time will get set to 12 on/off and they’ll be cut loose to stretch upward.
Since 2017, I’ve upgraded lights twice from my first set of 4 Viparspectra PAR 450 at 225W, to 4 HLG QB132 v2 Quantum boards at 300W, and now I’m two grows in with my 4 newest upgraded lights, Australian High Lights at 470W. These things are frickin amazing! I can’t wait to get them going again on the new grow, which will commence in about 3 weeks.
Veg will officially start when the plants get manifolded, maybe in a few weeks.
Here’s a short video of the room from tonight. I’ll be updating the grow here once in a while.
Life kind of got in the way and I ended up not posting a damn thing about this grow. Sorry about that… I barely paid attention to it I was so busy. I didn’t even get the scrogs made and installed. Amazingly, the grow did surprisingly well.
Here’s the last pic I took of the room prior to harvest.
Each plant hang dried for 4 days at 65° F and 50% RH, and was cured in 20 quart air tight totes for 3 weeks before being long term stored in air tight 1 gallon containers. 78 oz total.
Dry weight: 3 out of 4 yielded 19 oz and the back left corner Sativa pulled 21 oz.
Next grow starts in June 2023… The only real changes I’ll be doing is to make sure my scrogs are in place and I’ll be lollipopping each plant, removing larf. I promise I’ll try to do better to provide updates.
Thats a sick set up! Definitely want to get out of my tent and into a room like this! Will be stealing some of set up! Haha. First thing is the feeding system!
Thanks, aman_rndhw. It took about 4 years to get it to this point. Its a room in my basement. Its about 12 ft x 7 ft. You can’t really tell, but the floor is very uneven and the ceiling is only about 6 ft from the floor. Lots of challenges!
I have some videos on youtube of some of my setup. Here’s one of this grow at about midway through the grow.
Thanks @Ateko . This year’s grow just started today. 4 seeds began their germination period. Harvest is expected in mid October. I’ll be posting updates in this thread soon.
I added new adjustable scrogs this time. They’re gonna make things way easier to manage these big girls.
The room is ready. The seeds are in soil beginning seedling stage. Im hoping to move them from my seedling room to my main grow room around June 1st.
The fogger, AC, and a new Wall Mount Space Heater Panel - https://a.co/d/0VZJ41I I just installed are setup to work together to maintain optimal temps and humidity to create the correct VPD required throughout each stage of the grow. The room won’t go above 80° F during lights on from 6PM to 12 noon the next day. During lights out, the temp wont go below 68° F. The fogger will be set according to this vpd chart during each stage, so right now, around 70%. The fogger turns off during lights off.
Sky lotus didn’t pop, the other 3 did. I had 10 seeds of Sky lotus, so I tried 2 others. They also didn’t pop. I tried a Gelato OG, also didn’t pop. Old seeds… So I dropped another Black Cherry Punch (90% Indica, 25% THC);from the previous grow and she will be going into soil today. She’ll be a few weeks behind the others. Here they are.
I finally feel like this grow has begun. Lol, what a pain in the ass my last (4th) plant was to get started!! I went through several seeds. Some sprouted and didn’t go any farther, and some didn’t sprout at all. I ended up buying a clone from a local dispensary that was about the same age as my other 3.
Today is veg day 13 since they went into the main room. Maybe 3 days to a week to go before they get manifolded. They’ve been watered and fed twice since entering the room; about a gallon of water per container. Their root systems are beginning to take off.
The plants were manifolded on July 8. Ive been training them out since. This is after today’s training.
Trainwreck - This plant is doing well. Great structure, nice color, growing well. There are a few leaves barely turning the tip down, so maybe no N for next feed. We’ll see how they look in a week.
Gelati - Gelati appears to dislike the RH level at 70% and has been sporadically has leaf edges curling up a little. I knocked RH down to 65% and it has gotten better.
Blueberry - This one is definitely a full 100% Indica. Its very healthy looking and a well structured plant. Great color, no issues other than a few leaves with a barely downturned tip.
Same basics temps, RH and VPD. They were all watered and fed for the 3rd time yesterday. They were perfectly dry, not wilted at alland ready for it. I provoded 2 gallons to each of them. It will most likely be about 10 days before they need water again. By then, they should be trained out to the edges of their areas and close to being able to be flipped to flower.
I’ve been diligently training them out farther in their spaces. Trainwreck and Gelati have both nearly filled their spaces, showing their Sativa sides. White Widow and Blueberry are definitely very much more on the Indica side, staying shorter and not spreading out as much as the other two.
They received their first feeding with FoxFarm Open Sesame yesterday. They’re showing some preflower signs so they’re ready to flip. Next Saturday, August 12 they’ll start flower. Hopefully, this week White Widow and Blueberry will catch up a bit more.
So far, I’m really happy with this grow. They’re looking really healthy. And they each have some wonderful fragrance from touching the leaves.
6 more days, they’ll have vegged for 50, and I’ll switch them over to flower. Each plant space has the two top scrogs available if necessary. Sometimes there’s a lot of stretch, sometimes there isn’t.
Today is flower day 1. As they stretch I’ll be using the next scrog level to train them out, away from each other as much as I can.
They have now received 2 feedings over the last 2 weeks with FoxFarm Open Sesame at 1/4 tsp/gal. They’ll get a heavier dose over the next few weeks before moving on to Beastie Bloomz.
Their root systems seem to have spread out pretty well. I’ll need to water and feed every other day more regluarly now.
RH is set to 60% now, and the fogger doesn’t have to turn on very often due to the local humidity during this time of year in the Pacific Northwest. Temps in the room remain steady between 79°-83°F.
We have a few days over 100° and an otherwise hot week next week. So far, the AC has been very reliable. Shouldn’t be an issue.
I’ll update again in a few weeks after stretch really gets going.
I cant find it if you mentioned it but what soil are you using? How big are the pots? And could you link your feeding schedule in veg and flower? Thank you
I don’t really have a set feeding schedule, other than which nutes I provide at specific stages during or throughout the grow. Otherwise, the amounts of nutes during a feeding is dependent on how the plants look.
I only water/feed when the soil is dry enough based on my soil hygrometer. As the grow progresses, the plants become more regluar, needing to be watered every other day, until they want it every day in later flower.
I give 1 tblspn/gal each of both FoxFarm Big Bloom and Botanicare CalMag Plus every watering.
During early veg, I use no more than 1/4 tsp/gal of FoxFarm Grow Big until 2 weeks before I flip to flower. Thats when I hit them with a 1/4 tsp/gal of Open Sesame. Now that they’re in flower I’ll increase that to 1/2 tsp/gal.
At the end of week 2 I’ll switch to Beastie Bloomz. About 3 weeks later I’ll switch to Cha Ching until about a week or 2 before they harvest
I use a mix of 1/3 each of FoxFarm Ocean Forest, FoxFarm Happy Frog Soil Conditioner, and extra large perlite in 20 gal grow bags.
One week away from stretch being over and defoliation occurs.
Trainwreck is 40 inches x 24 inches with 16 tops with any part of it above the current top scrog, and 42 others below the top scrog. When stretch is definitely done, I’ll move the current top scrog down some and bring the next top scrog down for the taller branches to be fully supported.
Gelati is 46 inches x 24 inches with 49 tops with any part of it above the current top scrog, and 8 to 10 others below the top scrog. When stretch is definitely done, I’ll bring the next top scrog down for the taller branches to be fully supported.
White Widow is 36 inches x 24 inches with 22 tops with any part of it above the current top scrog, and 23 others below the top scrog. When stretch is definitely done, I’ll move the current top scrog down some and bring the next top scrog down for the taller branches to be fully supported.
Blueberry is 36 inches x 24 inches with 18 tops with any part of it above the current top scrog, and 27 others below the top scrog. When stretch is definitely done, I’ll move the current top scrog down some and bring the next top scrog down for the taller branches to be fully supported.
