About to harvest

I am about to harvest and I would like to know if anyone has any tips or tricks that I can do a couple days before, does anybody leave their lights off for a couple days or anything like that? Thanks for your help

Hi, yes, I sometimes leave them in the dark for 48 hours before harvesting. If I harvest without a dark period, I cut them down in the morning shortly after the light turns on. Supposedly, the intensity of the aromas degrades over the day under light and recovers or replenishes in the dark. Additionally, I let them dry out for the last 3 or 4 days so they give everything they’ve got one last time. For drying, I hang them in a dark room or tent if it’s available. Temperature and humidity are best at 18-20 °C and around 58%.

Dr Bruce Bugbee suggests 24-48 hours of constant light. Per his research a dark period is not beneficial at all.

I had to bring my light intensity down to bring my heat down… That being said can I keep the same lower intensity for a 48-hour period instead of complete darkness?

You definitely can. I haven’t seen a notcible difference with normal, dark or light. But it’s fun to experiment. There truly isn’t a wrong way as long as the results are good.

The only thing I really change towards harvest is i cut the water a couple of days before I plan to chop and if I can I like to strip some big fans because I always have a humid environment and try to cut it down a little for drying

In theory it provides the same stress as leaving it in the dark but does not deprive it of the energy provided by the light. Trichomes are also produced as a sort of sun screen so taking away the light removes one of the reasons the plant has to make them.

I’m just wondering one thing: when my plants start to flower, they produce trichomes right away. These then take weeks to turn milky. If I try to get more of them using various methods just two days before harvest, they don’t actually have any time to mature.:face_with_raised_eyebrow: So I ask myself what that’s supposed to be good for :thinking:

All trichomes are full of oils and terpenes regardless of maturity, its more about the thc content when we are waiting for them to change colour

That’s been my thought every time people say it’s for trichomes. Plus trichomes are made during light hours.

I’ve gotten into the habit of checking in the morning after the light turns on and then, if it looks good, simply harvesting them. I’ve been happy with the results so far. Everything else is bro science to me.

I simply harvest when it’s ready.
I also let it dry out slowly towards the end, but otherwise I think this light-dark stuff before harvest is nonsense.
