I’m getting much better at having seeds actually sprout. I still feel like I’m not very good at taking care of them from the day they sprout through the first two weeks or so. Attached are two pictures of two different seedlings with different problems.
- The seedling that looks (is?) dead: This one sprouted. I had it in the cup you see under a dark pot on a heat mat (75 degrees). Seed was planted on 3/23 and sprouted (that I saw) on 3/28. I immediately removed the dark pot so it could get light. And now you can see the result. That’s just overnight! Do you think it could be too much light too soon? When do you guys give your seedlings light? I was thinking they need dark while still seeds and then immediate light when they pop above the surface of the soil. I did not put it in direct light. It was 3 feet under the light and off to the side a bit. Light is a 100W LED light. How did I mess up? Would you guys left it in the dark after it sprouted for a few days?
- The long leggy one also was planted 3/23 but sprouted faster. It’s doing okay, but I’m concerned about the “legginess” . I’ve had problems in the past with seedlings just flopping over. Is the legginess a result of being too far from light? That would possibly be the opposite problem from seedling #1.
Any ideas appreciated!
