Any tips Making Cannabis extrats QWISO and Bubble Hash

Did you ever end up buying that machine? Thats the same one i bought except came with 8 bags and machine worked well was a little loud from ice mixing around but pretty powerful and wasnt bouncing around on the counter and plan on using it again after winter grow is done

I held off on the washer, just got the bags and drill mixer, and a ā€œfood gradeā€ 5 gal bucket from my local Tractor Supply store. I don’t know that I will have the volume to justify the washer just yet. My local grower network is expanding so that may change.

I’m really excited about giving this a try. My fist run will be live, with the trim and larf. If I mess that up it’s just a lesson learned as I would have toss that out anyway. If that goes well I have some older weed I might use.

I’m think my initial batches will have small yields so drying wont be as tricky. I may see sooner than later this girl is getting floppy, I snapped one about that size that was a 150g wet, it’s close but I was going for the full 65 days this time. I may have too much humidity and a bad thrips issues for this strain. The buds are big and are really dense, not as frosty as like though. I did better with these two but I wish I was growing something else next time, but soon.

Drill and bucket should work just as well. The machine can hold around a QP anything higher gets to heavy for the washer to spin but other than negating a manual wash it doesnt do anything else lol. I made mine then froze it for a day before microplaning it over card board and since you got the grader im guessing your doing same techinque and if so i would recommend doing it in the freezer so it stays cold while grading and then set out to dry once finished. Depending on the heat it unthaws pretty quick becoming super glue sticky type status lol. Also if any gets stuck on grader just put grader back in freezer for an hour an youll be able to scrape it all off no problem

I don’t actually have a new dedicated planer yet, but that is just trip the Food Lion, and one overpriced purchase and I’m good, right?

Only a quarter pound, hmm maybe I will have that kind of volume. No regrets though at this point the paint mixer is the only thing extra.

I may call on some consulting advice during the drying phase if I run into issues.

My Strawberry Cough bean popped, the Bruce Banner is trying but I guess I will know tomorrow for sure. If the Banner does not make it I make put the SC up for adoption and do run on the new stuff.

HomeGrown Seeds turnaround was quick using wire transfer, think I like using Zelle better though still 72hrs but still looks like it be over 5 days total processing. So spoiled by Amazon and Feebay same day service.

Get a Microplane knockoff mate, way cheaper and just as good!

I was just going to buy a hand grater from the grocery store and not use for anything else.

Is that not right?

You want the fine grater, the one that makes really fine shavings like is used for zesting and grating parmesan etc… I think its called the Microplane Fine grater. But the brand is expensive, there’s loads of cheaper versions about, that’s all I was saying.

Thats the one i got just a knockoff and cheaply priced also worked perfect besides a little build up in the corner from hash unthawing to fast do to my own fault but @anon81552836 thats a good one bud

Harvested today!

I have the 220 bag full of trim in freezer. Not really much larf to speak of really but any buds I lost are in there.

Aggressive lollipopping does work well with this Blue Cookies from Amsterdam Company. It wants to make big dense buds but it’s too much for my humid environment. I have two more but man I really wish it was something else. Oh yes did drop new seeds too.

The total weight is about 600g, mostly of stuff I would have tossed out.

Given my source this is more about learning the process. Not fond of the flower but the finger hash and QWISO I’ve made from this is quite tasty.

Oh the QWISO

Freeze the flower 24 hours first, in the jar you plan to use with the lid off. Also freeze the ISO. Not mixing but they both need be cold. I used 4 hours before and I don’t thing it was enough.

Then to speed everything up after the shake use a couple of metal strainers. One is to hold the coffee filter the other so you can fast pour out of the jar. You can then apply pressure to the flower.

Dripping does work better but it would take a long time so you can wring the filter gently. I can’t tell you how long but I’m the type of person who can watch paint dry and I left.

Doing all that eliminated the dark tar like patches, I think it was mostly the 24 freezing though. It is still dark when it condenses after scraping but it’s firmer like a hard taffy. I imagine I could retain the fresh scraped look if it was kept cool but at room temp it turns into blob over few days or so. That is a pale yellowish green

I still love the stuff appearance be damned every hit is special.

So I did a single pass today. It was not much it’s freezer now but I could think I could skip that step with what I’m working working with.

What was on my scraper was dry enough to dab in less than an hour. The blueberry\grape candy flavor comes through strong. It taste better than my QWISO, it has more of a fruity flavor. I don’t think it’s all that strong, again this was trim not bud. Wasn’t ever a good size hit either

I ran into issues with trim getting turning into a ball with the mixer, stuck with it for about 10 minutes switching direction when I cleared the mixer. I don’t think i was getting very good flow.

This run was about learning more than anything and I learned some things. One my drill is on the twitchy side which only makes the knotting issue worse, with some practice I think I can overcome that one.

I believe the freezing part is for grader purposes. When i did mine it was also that sticky dab texture in a few hrs but i dont really do dabs but was nice to see lol. I think the freeze and grade technique is preffered more for people who mix the hash with the bud like myself and actual hash pipes and grading it just helps prevent it from getting moldy over the week it needs to dry but thats just me assuming lol. Ive also heard the bubble has a better flavor than the other proccesses but ive only done bubble style so far so cant speak on it besides saying mine has a nice taste to it and smooth inhale but grabs ahold of your lungs on the exhale and fking chokes them out :rofl: but all in all im happy with the 1st attempt and happy to hear your doing good as well bud

Yeah I could see need the freezing if I have more to work with. If I had use a pound of flower not shake, oh yeah. I don’t think its fully dry and it’s just under 1g. I just smoked some in a regular bowl over a little flower, it worked fine 8 hours later. It’s decent buzz more flower like than my QWISO.

As for dab rig, I just use a fab egg recycler bong but any bong would work and quartz bowl. That and a strong torch lighter you are set. It’s just a quartz bowl that you heat red hot and then add extract too.

It’s a nicer hit than then a normal bowl, it’s like a very flavorful vape. Little to no ash so coughing isn’t that bad.

Aging the hash helps with this, becomes smoother over time

My latest QWISO run

Now resulting in something similar to shaved bubble hash, pixie farts. It’s dry like a powered.

Froze the buds whole no break up or grinding to achieve this., I think I could have done a second run. By far the purest and quickest drying pull yet.

This started drying at room temp with a fan and was dry in about 4 hours.

For me this is the way, QWISO gentle method.

Still have a few more things to try but I think I’m close to making a process worth following. At least one that will deliver these result on the first try with stuff you may already have at home.

90%+ isopropyl alcohol
cannabis
glass jar
freezer
two sieves
coffee filter
a glass baking dish.

Draft of the process, need to add some photo’s too.

If anyone tries this please post any feedback, be it with the the instructions, process, results or questions.

Isopropyl Alcohol extracts

Alcohol can be used to chemically remove THC and terpenes from cannabis flower. The rendered solution is then allowed to evaporate. That will leave a film behind which can be scraped resulting in a THC powder that can be smoked. You could further process it for edibles but there are better ways for that. The process can be used on live, dry or de-carded cannabis.

If edibles are the main goal, I would consider using ethyl (grain/drinking) alcohol. One you don’t need to evaporate the alcohol. So, you can make topical or oral tinctures that can easily be used in recipes or drinks.

So why Iso over Ethyl? Well cost first of all it’s typically cheaper and easier to acquire. Also, Iso is slightly less polar so as a solvent, it does a better job of leaving behind what’s not wanted mainly chlorophyll.

You can also use this method to reclaim THC from jars you might be using to store and cure your weed in.

The resulting extract is similar to kief, it’s basically kief with nearly all the plant matter removed. The process does tend to reduce the sedative effects vs flower, but the resulting high is way better

Things you will need
• Isopropyl Alcohol 90%+
• Cannabis
• Glass jar with lid
• Glass casserole dish
• 2 strainers
• 1 coffee filter (10-20 micron in normal)
• Scraper

Method

  1. Place the flower in a glass jar and freeze for at least 12 hours.
After trying this several ways, not grinding yielded better results. If the buds are dense, freeze them break them up by hand and re-freeze. Grinding led to more impurities every time.
  2. Place isopropyl Alcohol in freezer for at least 12 hours.
  3. Arrange all your straining stuff and double check you have everything.
    a. Things to have ready and in position. 2 strainers, 1 coffee filter, glass casserole dish.
  4. Fill jar with alcohol and seal the lid.
    a. For QWISO you vigorously shake for 20-30 seconds
    b. Longer soaks will be stronger just keep it in the freezer, if it gets warm it will pick-up water-soluble impurities you don’t generally want.
  5. Strain, use two strainers and a coffee filter.
The first strainer just pre-filters. You don’t want plant material in the coffee filter it increases the risk of ripping the filter. The second strainer holds the coffee filter. To speed up the filtering you can gently pull the sides up and twist slowly to compress.
  6. Allow to dry
Drying time will vary and a fan is an option but could introduce contaminates.
  7. Scrape and enjoy

Nice write up.

Couple things - I’d recommend looking for 99.9% pure iso. The less pure ones contain a bunch of nasty stuff like chemical softeners, fragrances, dyes etc. you don’t want to ingest, especially via the lungs.

Also, to speed up drying time you can heat the mix gently, either using a double boiler or very low (no flames) heat source. When it gets near I decant to whatever container I want to use, and pour it off before it becomes too sticky.

Here is my process that I use for rso.

All my iso so far is just water and alcohol but I should note that closer to 100% the better and to confirm the ingredients. Now the broader rubbing alcohols have that stuff and I believe also use iso, they tend to be colored too. Regardless it should be covered.

I chose 90% because it’s easy to source locally and I know it works.

As for drying time this was created with 1 oz of flower starting batches, it’s dry in 6-12 hours with a fan at room temp. Heat certainly can be used. In fact you just reminded me why I was looking my seedling heating pad, lol.

All good points though, scaling also increases the ventilation risks that I should mention.

Just checked out your post, too funny we both use the recipe format lol for the layout. I think I will share that with some people.

I ended up buying a rosin press for dabs but I haven’t had much quality material to make anything. How does this method preserve terps?

Would be interesting to do a side by side comparison. I might give it a go next harvest. That powder looks like a blast haha.

I think they are very good but I’ve never had rosin to compare with. Compared with flower it’s like candy. I would say about the same as bubble hash. It’s close to full melt too. It’s a very smooth hit, clean, vape like hit, a large hit will give a cough on exhale.

You can get a good idea by reclaiming from a cleaning a storage container. Just using the iso to clean the sticky off as a first rinse before you start wiping and pour it out and let it dry. Or could try it with just a few buds just to get a taste.

I was considering a rosin press as prices have come way down recently, What’s going on there?
