Autos in Organics

Well, it’s a new year, just moved to a new place with a separate bedroom which is now my grow room, new seed lineup but still the same soil now in its’ 4th year of use.

Also new to me are autoflowers which I’ve read so much about and I selected Northern Storm and Big Bud for the freebies of a recent order from MSNL.

Another thing new I tried was straight germination into its’ final 10G pot that had been prepped with red clover and alfalfa for ground cover. Without a pre-soak, seeds were planted about an inch down, spritz to settle the soil around, domed up and left alone for about 5 days. Since my dome did not cover the pot completely, I had to spray the perimeter that dried out.

Big Bud came up first and today I can see Northern Storm starting to stretch its’ legs.

Where’s Waldo?

NS:

Like my DIY evaporative humidifier? Made from parts I’ve had laying around. The only thing I spent on was the mop head from the Dollar Store used as a wick. And for air movement, I used a 12v computer fan with the airflow directed downwards and out through the wicks. I glued a plastic jar on top to serve as a velocity stack and ram more air down. Cheap and effective but the only downside is the ability to control output. Further testing is needed but this is what happens when you get stuck at home during frigid conditions.

This is beautiful! You’re a smart guy, love the ingenuity.I want to watch these grow, taking notes :sunglasses:

Sometimes you just have to laugh at yourself. I thought the Northern Storm had popped up but it turned out to be clover. Turns out she was underneath the surface yesterday and today she finally broke through:

Anyway, the autos are all germinated. In the meantime over at the veg tent, the Do Si Dos and Bruce Banner have sprouted though I am not putting too much hope with the Bruce. She had a hard time shedding the shell off and with my assistance and clumsiness, I managed to pull the seedling out in wrestling the shell off. It wouldn’t surprise me if it dies from manhandling though the tap looked real good and healthy.

Probably won’t be able to distinguish it from the clover. Here is the DosiDos peeking out of the soil:

Next up will be the Gorilla Glue and Bluberry OG but I think I will be using my 15G pots for these. I know the Blueberry can get tall and I’ve read the Gorilla is the same. So I am going to need more lateral space for the canopies. But I am also considering turning the whole room into flowering space. Cheers and happy growing.

Thanks. Actually I’ve cut the alfalfa out as I thought it provided too much N in the latter part of the grow. I believe the clover has enough N to sustain the plant.

I’ve always wanted to try germinating seeds directly into the final pot just like nature would. Here they are a week later:

Northern Storm:

Big Bud:

I’ve kept them 36" from the light with temps at ~75F and RH ~45%. Those DIY humidifiers work well I believe, drinking almost 2L of water everyday. And with all three running in their respective places, the humidity in the room (16’ x 16’) is kept pretty constant at 40% with the door closed. Not bad numbers. Cheers.

Sorry @canagen for the late response, but ya my mistake, I just saw you had your companion plants, and like the fact your trying the autos,! That’s true, I did read that in 1 of your post?
But your grows are always a pleasure to see advance,
Well my girls are mostly in flower mode now, and after treating them so young with home made pesticide, did effect some of them but now with still some small trips still but I will treat them another time during this week, it was about a week ago the first, and I did it just before lights out, so I’m learning and do see the benefits of the work you put in is how you get good results, 9

Hi, your technique is very interesting. I see you cleaned the plant. Did you do it in vegetative or flowering stage? Or both? I’ve always been afraid of stressing the plant and ruining the final yield. Thanks for your eventual reply.
