On another thread (Brown on plants - #8 by bibsoconner) I asked about brown on plants and possible bud rot. One thing that came up was the use of a black light which I now have (about $10 on Amazon). I do not see any " weird green color" (see for example: How to Identify Mold in Cannabis Products | Bloom Dispensaries) on my living plants or hanging (drying) plants. You’re probably saying “that’s great news! Why the extra questions?”.
Well, the black light use is new to me, and I’m not sure I trust it. After all, I’ve had folks on this forum say that it looks like bud rot and I’m certainly not dismissing that! My questions:
- How to use black light and what to look for?
- What are some definite “positive for mold” experiments I can do with a black light so I know what I’m looking for? Maybe put some bread in water and leave out for a few days? Very old cheese?
- (For those with patience
) How about a simple explanation of why/how a black light shows up mold (and apparently bed bugs, seaman, and many other things!).
Thanks!
