Brown spots on leaves that get worse

Hello all. This is a Bruce banner plant I started from seed. I started it too close to the light and think I stunted it. I transplanted a week or 2 ago and have fed it with remo at 25% and then 50%. I might have started feeding too late. The leaves at the bottom start to get a few spots but then the spots get progressively worse until the leaf dies. The picture is of the worst leaf.

If you scrape it, does it come off?

@voicelesspilot It doesn’t come off. I took another picture out of the tent and you can see a lower leaf that’s dying and then one more that’s in an earlier stage. I did some googleing and maybe phosphorus deficiency?

That one makes it look like it has a potassium deficiency, but the one I found, it looks more like phosphorus. Any suggestions @voicelesspilot

It does look like P deficiency along with Calcium. What is you PH range? Soil still looks new so I doubt it is due to a lack of those nutrients. What are you using for media and for watering, RO water, distilled, wellwater or???

The new growth looks good but what are those white spots on the plant’s leaves? Did you dust the plant with something?

@canagen ph is not over 6.5 and if it’s below that, it’s not below more than .1 or .2. I am using pro mix HP M and I am using tap water. I’m using tap water, which I usually let sit for 24 hours before pH testing and mixing my nutrients. I live in B.C. so our tap water is pretty clean. I didn’t dust the plant with anything, but I did foliar spray the other day, so maybe remnants from that?

All seems fine but I would raise that ph up above 6.5, which is a bit on the low side of acceptable range 6.2-7.0. Do you have any calmag? That should retard the deficiency for Ca and help with the P since they work together.

As for the spots, I guess it could just be dust blown around. Here is a close-up of your second pic:

At bottom left, you can see evidence of Ca def.

Sorry, my internet has been down.

I do have some calmag. I will give it a foliar tonight. I will spray with ph closer to 7.0. Appreciate the help @canagen

No worries!

Try adding a little Cal-Mag that might fix it.

Did a foliar feed last night with some magnifical, which is Remos calmag. Hoping I start to see an improvement in the next few days. Thanks!

Stem on that leaf is way purple which also indicates a cal mag issue. I’m not a big fan of foiler sprays unless it’s for IPM. Can’t really say much about the plant grow since we don’t have all the details. As for the pH for soil I have had growers say 5.5 - 7.0. If you look at a nutrient uptake chart anywhere between that is fine but dialed in is 6.3 - 6.5 so if your anywhere between 6-7 I would say your good and I feed between 6.3 - 6.5. I would recommend cal-mag for every water or every other water since you can’t really over do it. When your in the third week of flower go to sweet raw which is a mag - sulfur solution. To top it all off if you can afford it I would get rid of the blurple light and go with a normal white LED as it’s a lot easier to see changes in your plants without pulling them out all the time. Check out my insta…newb420grower.

I actually had them in my tent under an HLG 550 for first few weeks, but thought that light was too intense. Should I throw that back in there? The current blurple light in there is a black dog phytomax 2 - 400, which is a full spectrum light, so should be good from veg to flower.

I switched to green planet nutrients and I spoke to one of the managers of their manufacturing area and he said the ph should be in between 5.8 and 6.5, with the ideal ph being 6.2 or 6 3. That’s what I am gonna feed at. Next feed I will be adding the pro cal, but since I didn’t have it for the first feed I figured i would foliar feed so it got cal and mag.

I dont have social media so cant check out your set up unfortunately. I have a 5x5 gorilla grow tent. My day time Temps are between 78 and 82ish and night time I’m at about 73 to 75. My humidity is around 55 to 60 in the day and 45 to 50 at night. I have a 6 inch inline fan with a charcoal filter inside and another 6 inch inline fan I use to cool the tent down if Temps get to high. Right now, I have a hurricane clip fan moving air inside and another wind devil fan once the plants get bigger.

Sounds like a good setup but I would put them back under the HLG and just turn it down to 25 or 50 percent. I have the HLG650R and I love it for my 5x5. If you have a smart phone check out “ photon” it can help you dial in your PAR which should be 300-600 par for veg. It’s not a full blown PAR meter but I have compared it against my “SpotOn” meter and it’s pretty damn close. Your temps and humidity seem fine. Just don’t overwater. The plant actually looks pretty good for being young and I wouldn’t stress to much about it. Just try the CalMag in the water and maybe some blackstrap molasses to feed your microbes. A great book is 7 steps to grow cannabis by Mr. Growit on Amazon. It’s well written in plain language easy to understand and geared toward the new grower.

I downloaded photone. Pretty cool app. Still in beta testing so I figured I would start off with it as close to 300 par. Both plants started out way to close to the HLG and that stunted them. They’re in week 5 of veg so they should be much bigger. The learning curve from outdoor to indoor has been pretty big for me, but thanks to the community people who have gone through it have been helping me out! I jumped on my wife’s Instagram and checked out your set up and looks very nice! Appreciate all the help, @Newbgrower

You’re doing good, nice setup but one Black Dog LED PhytoMAX-2 400 for 5x5 tent is not enough! You should add another one and hand them side by side. You’ll have a bigger yield this way because the light is more intense. Black Dog uses their PhytoMAX-2 1000 in 5x5 tent so you plenty of room to add more light. I’m using BudBox 4’x2.5’ tent and just switched from PhytoMAX-2 400 to PhytoMAX-3 8SP that uses same wattage 410w but outputs light equivalent to PhytoMAX-2 600. I’m in week 3 Veg under that light and it’s a bit smaller but noticably brighter. Black Dog LED is top in the industry right now so you’re doing great💪🏼

Try curing bags instead of glass jars they warm really well www.grovebags.com scroll down to you going either custom order and order random sizes or choose Home Grow a little lower and buy 10 or 20 packs. They don’t need any moisturizing humidity packs of any kind! Very handy bags.

Your pH level is good between 6.1 & 6.3 is correct if using soil. I’m using Biobizz nutrients and their soil Biobizz Light-Mix it’s the top 100% organic Dutch company in Europe. One of Black Dog workers put me on who uses Biobizz himself and manages a growing facility a warehouse of over 6000 plants that uses only Biobizz. His name is Jay. When you talk via chat on their site he goes by the name “BullMuse” or just call them and ask for Jay if you’d like more info on Biobizz. I buy most of it on Amazon.

Here’s my feeding schedule and I also add Organic Kelp & Extreme Blend from www.kelp4less.com an organic company that has great products and great prices in dry powder form that lasts much longer:

I hope this helps. Happy growing!

Good call on the light. I got a phyto max 2 200, but not here, so I put my HLG 550 back for now. I got a pretty good feed schedule from green planet and seems to be working, along with the foliar I was feeding. Just have to dial it in since I noticed noticed little yellowing on the tips.

Plants seem like they turned the corner now and I haven’t noticed the spots on the new growth. Couple of pictures of how they’re doing now.

I have the same thing light green spots on my leaves, only one of them the doors turned brown. That’s not a deficiency that requires attention or adjustment of your feeding schedule so don’t worry. If you want, you can cut those leaves off if they are rubbing your eye

I actually panicked the first time I had those spots and discoloration and I called black dog LED and spoke to Jay and Amanda and they both said that it’s absolutely fine and my plans look stellar. Just ignore or if it really bothers me I could have cut them off but I didn’t.

Here’s a picture of the same issue I had at some point :point_down:t3:

Don’t forget to defoliate at least twice but I do it 3 times. Twice is the way to go to get a better yield and better light penetration because the second set of leaves that grows out they are all grow out smaller than the previous set and when you defoliate the second time then they grow back out even smaller which allows more light and airflow to seep through! If you look on my feeding schedule at the bottom you’ll see defoliate at day 0 flower so the day you are flipping them to 12/12 that’s when you Defoliate. Then days 18 to 21 in flower and then finally day 40 to 45, but at that stage there will be not that many of them left so you should be able to go through it relatively quickly.

I’m using Great White :shark:, Fish Shit :fish:, & Mammoth P 🦣 with every watering and it makes a big difference.

Happy growing!
