So I was just gifted a hydroponic 5 gallon dwc system for my birthday, and I have a bunch of small closet but I cloned them all in soil/coco/perlite mix. There are clay balls that come with the bucket.
I am gonna enjoy keeping the ph and ppm to the right levels so I can make her boom, but like I’ve heard years ago that unlike other plants a cannabis plant’s roots can’t touch air like that or it can die quickly. I was thinking taking the plant, and like putting it into a pot of room temp water and then washing the soil off carefully. Then taking it and feeding longest roots through bottom of net up then add clay pellets for stabilization. If anyone can help me please do.
At first thought, it seemed to me that stress would be too much for the girls. But, maybe you can try inert soil (coconut fiber for example), this way the clones would keep a minimum structure in their roots when you change the pot.
Wouldn’t an inert soil be someone like clay pebbles too? But I did get to thinking and honestly idk if it’s worth the stress, I was thinking of getting rockwool cubes so that I could clone into that and then move it directly into the DWC bucket. Yeah I’d have to knock all the soil away as I’m using a complete mix. I could use some seed starter coco fiber. Was thinking of completely washing the roots away maybe, and whaile leaving the Roos submerged I’m gonna take the netcup and pull the largest roots down through, and then carefully add in the clay balls, and some support under the smaller roots, and around the base of the stem an inch or 2 up. Maybe too water with a timer connected to a pump for every 30 minutes to get the smaller roots to reach through and go into the water.
You don’t want that dirt in your dwc system. Just start a new plant for the dwc. Switching could cause them to stunt or slow you way down. I watched someone else try this and it failed miserably, they had to take the plants back out of the dwc and plant them in soil again after wasting almost 8 weeks trying to get them use to the dwc system.
I have her in a dwc with a humidifier and she seems good as gold, nothing left, leaned it with clean water till it was nothing but white roots
Right on, keep us updated how she does.
