If you don’t have a growlog please answer these questions
What strain are you growing? - Girlscout cookie extreme autoflower from Robert Bergman’s ILGM seedbank
Indoor
Are you using nutrients? Which ones? How much? - entire FoxFarm line plus TPS Bioavailable Silica. Haven’t used any nutes yet though. The details are in my growlog but I use a coco coir mix that’s ~50% coco, 30% FoxFarm Ocean soil and 20% Foxfarm Happy Frog soil. Both soils are pretty hot so I don’t think I’ll need to feed for at least a couple more weeks. I also threw a couple handfuls of fresh coco mix into each container to offset waterings compacting the medium (which adds some nutes).
It’s winter here and though I had to get rid of a fungus gnat infestation last summer, I haven’t seen a hint of bugs since then. You can see from the pics it looks like something was chewing on those leaves but there’s only 2 or 3 spots affected max. I’m trying to figure out (or at least narrow down) what could cause this so I can get beneficial nematodes or insects that’ll kill the appropriate pests. Any ideas on what could cause this?
Probably worth noting this was the most robust plant of 5. Wasn’t the tallest but had massive growth. So for several weeks some leaves were resting on each other, allowing moisture to collect. I was worried about possible mold or fungi and so kept the clip fan blowing on high directly at the plants to combat it. I’m not certain these areas were the ones touching other leaves but I wonder if there could be a connection?
This is a zoomed-out view of the whole grow for perspective. Its the plant in the back (furthest away from where I’m taking the picture from) that’s affected.
They were also just moved from my veg tent in the other room to this flowering tent to finish.
Lovely set up @ManagerialEliteToast , it’s the only 1 plant that had the bit of an issue, looks like it has Been chewed by something, but over all great and very healthy, you can get predator mites, they won’t touch or harm your weed, but they love trips and mites, but you will get better advice here I’ll give you a name of 1 or 2 can help @Outdoorman@canagen they’re pros
Well good luck , and happy growing
What are those white dots spread around? Have you dusted with anything? Those leaves sure have been eaten. Best to have close-up look of the undersides and those spots for identification.
Not sure but the dots could be diatomaceous earth. There’s none in this flower tent but there was some around the perimeter of the veg tent they just came out of. It’s possible a little got kicked up while moving the plants into the flower tent. Either that or a tiny amount dust or ash or something. Close ups and back of leaf pics
Also, no chewing that I can see on this taller plant to the right (pic attached) but suddenly it’s droopy and looks real sad. This plant’s leaves had all been “praying”, angled up towards the light and looking very healthy it’s entire lifespan. At first I thought I needed to increase the volume & frequency of water because of where it is in it’s growth cycle. Now I’m wondering about pests. Something very similar happened when I had fungus gnats last summer. No idea if it’s related but thought it better to mention this
There was no scrog net in the previous tent so I doubt that, but something is wrong. Suddenly the plants are all drooping. Especially the one on the right. They were great for 6 weeks and now they’re struggling.
I’m 99% sure I overwatered in response to the initial droopy-ness and generally sad looking plants. So they got super heavy, filled with water, and significantly more droopy. When I let them dry for 3 days they looked much better but still not normal. More of the tan spots are appearing and a few more of what look like bite marks. We do have stink bugs around but I haven’t seen any in the tents. I’ll upload pics and a full update shortly. As always, I really appreciate the help from everyone
You can see I’ve been pounding them with innocuous (trifecta crop control is just a bunch of herb oils used to control stuff like powdery mildew/mold and as preventative pest repellent) to FoxFarm Force of Nature which is about as serious as organic pesticides get. Also applied BT bacteria spray for caterpillars/moths. Nothing is helping, it’s getting worse even though the overwatering problem has been corrected
The only difference with this plant is that it was left in the veg tent because of space issues and it didn’t get overwatered (because it never looked sad/in bad shape). It also only got trifecta crop control, not either of the stronger sprays. Idt the sprays are related because I dim my lights before applying. So I doubt it’s burns caused by liquid on the leaves. It looks like either a tiny pest issue or viral/microbial/fungal issues but none of the marks or discolorations rub off.
Grow log for same strain plant that got all the same treatment as the others but stayed in the veg tent and is completely fine. Flourishing. :
These are all the newest pics and microscope pics that were even close to in focus. My hands just aren’t steady enough, I’m going to try to prune a really bad leaf and photograph it under the scope stand soon.
At this point I’m even looking for “what the heck would you try as a hail mary attempt to get these plants back on track” advice. Would you prune affected leaves and spray more?
Or maybe use Root Cleaner on all of the containers? It’s sodium lauryl sulfate and soybean oil. If it’s bad nematodes, thrips, fungus gnats, or several other root-based pests or fungi, it’ll clear it up.
I also have beneficial nematodes in the fridge I’d need to use soon.
HB+SC+SF - Triple Blend Beneficial Nematodes . Obviously I haven’t sprayed in a couple days and would need to wait several more to apply these or the pesticide residue will just kill them.
My only other thought was to just let these finish (they’re autoflowers so won’t be long) and then bleach the tent and all equipment in it top to bottom. I foolishly didn’t deep clean after the last run because the only pest issue I had was completely cleared up and I had no fungi\microbial\viral\bacterial issues at all. It had been perfectly fine for at least 6 weeks. So I just used some clorox wipes and damp paper towels to clean the floor. Is there a chance this is something like Tobacco mosiac virus or fusarium that started in the last days of the old grow and lingered through the disinfectant cleaning?
But I’d really prefer to identify the problem since I’m afraid it’ll affect my next crop. I have 4 Grandaddy Purp seedlings just entering veg. The plan was to give them a ton of time in veg and really invest a lot of time and effort into them since they’re supposed to be excellent genetics. Really don’t want to waste those plants.
