Perhaps this is normal, I’m a novice grower, but my CBD ACDC (on the right) doesn’t look right.
Thoughts?
Thanks in-advance!
If you don’t have a growlog please answer these questions.
What strain are you growing? Is it Auto, Fem or Reg? CBD ACDC
Are you growing Indoor or outdoor? Indoor
Are you using nutrients? Which ones? How much? No nutes yet - Miracle Grow potting soil
Welcome to the community bud i hope your enjoy your time here. As for your question how is the humidity in the enviroment? Youll want it to be about 70% rh while seedling is still developing roots and the moisture in the air is what they are growing off of at this stage… it could also be the soil is to “hot” meaning loaded with nutrients and seedling just cant handle it. Ive heard bad things about miracle grow and being hot but i have never used it myself. If ya have any more questions feel free to ask bud and im sure myself and the community will help ya
RH hovers-around 30%, so I think I’ll cover my ailing tree with a plastic dome, to hold the RH in better.
I’m using “Miracle-Gro Seed Starting Potting Soil”, the ingredients of-which are an NPK of 0.03-0.03-0.03 (VERY light ferts). I’m only growing the 2 trees, & the other (Citrus Sap) tree seems to be thriving. CS tree is also taking-up more water.
it seems to look better today (see pic), but I’m wondering if I perhaps have a bum seed here? I guess time will tell.
Sometimes the stress can get them to do funky things and if the rh was that low the whole time its probably from that or could just be a bum seed sadly but either way id say grow it out and get that valuable hands on exp and who knows she could fruit into something amazing, ya just never know with these plants lol. The MG soil is very light so def not the soil. Forgot to mention after she grows her 2 sets of true leaves (serated ones) you can be done with the dome and just try to maintain around 60% rh until flowering.
Ideally your VPD is what matters alot when it comes to growing in my opinion (plant enviroment…RH+Temp) and if your unable find out what yours is its roughly RH being 10-15 lower than temps that should keep ya around the 1.0-1.4 vpd range but keep in mind ya really dont want your RH to be higher than id say 70% in veg and thats with really good airflow but like a 75 temp and 65RH with airflow ive noticed most varieties grow really well and you’re not risking mold or mildew with very high humidity
The room my tent is in is kept cold, which is ok w/ the lights on, but it gets pretty-darned cold in there at “night” (like, 62f).
I put a seedling mat under a clear flowerpot tray, but with the dome on the Solo cup, the seedlings get too hot.
I just put the mat on a timer (15-min on/off cycle), on during the “night”/off during the “day”, & just purchased a tiny Vivosun humidifier from Amazon, as it seems that in my setup, domes bake the seedlings.
While you wait for the humidifier you can spray the inside of the dome with water from a spray bottle and it will increase the humidity a lot more effectively and provide some protection from them baking.
62f isnt to bad for night time temps and its more what the root zone temp is that matters but dont get me wrong to cold or hot will effect them as well but say if ya temps with lights on are in the low 70s or higher chances are the soil and roots arent getting below 65f when lights off as the soil will trap some of that daytime heat in or cool roots down if there too hot so no worries there. Plus the low 60s may bring out some nice coloring depending on genetics
Thanks for the good advice & encouragement, Crackadoo & Smokey101… There’s significant growth in both cups - my Citrus Sap tree looks great, but my CBD ACDC is lookin’ a bit freaky, there’s no serrations on its leaves. Strange!
@Smokey101 and @Jamon8 are both spot on with what they say about them just being funky sometimes, despite everything you do some are just going to do wierd shit and its nothing to really stress about unless you know something is off in all of them and not just one.
Thanks for chiming-in, Jamon8 - Yep, Smokey101 & Crackadoo offer sagely advice, and “talked me off the ledge”, regarding my funky-looking CBD ACDC girl. Patience wins the game!
Here are pics of both that seedling, & my Citrus Sap seedling, 1 week after placing-into the Solo cups… I see serrations on the 2nd fan leaves on the ACDC - a hopeful turn of events.
Fingers are crossed - time will tell the story, I guess.
It seems that my girl has survived the initial leaf distortion, now I wonder about leaf color… new growth looks beautiful to me, but the older growth seem not as green as I’d think should be (white-ish?).
Also, despite the addition of a humidifier, I cant seem to get the tent humid enough (RH avg. %34, VPD avg. %2.2).
We do have quite a bit of calcium in our tap H2O, but I run all water through a Zerowater filter, so I have a TDS of 0.0.
Perhaps I’m over-worrying??
Here’s a pic taken today, seedlings have been repotted, & I’ve advanced my controller to veg. state… see what I mean about older vs newer fan leaves?
Thanks, @Demonrage75 for stopping by, I’ll try lowering the temps in the tent.
The shriveled leaf is the way that that seed popped (which evoked panic!) - take a look at the pic on the top of this thread… I’m now feeling pretty-good about the look of my seedling recovery regarding the shriveled leaf, & have “graduated” to panicking about other things - like the mottled fan leaves.
