Hello community, I recently upgraded the passive air intake on my grow tent.
I previously had 4 inch ducting with a filter on it, entering the tent on each side. This was working OK, however, I had an insane amount of negative pressure in the tent.
I decided to upgrade to 6 inch ducting to allow more airflow and I also built a filtered light baffle box. The duct has an air filter attached as well.
I used the filter cover that is designed to slide over a 6” carbon filter, I cut it up into equal squares and it worked perfectly.
There is much less negative pressure now, almost balanced.
NOTE: I built one for each side of the tent.
New Set up:
Nice, do you find the filters are helpful vs open vents?
Also, how do you get fresh air into your lung room? My tent is in a basement room with no windows and so has really poor ventilation. Installing ventilation to the current room is not an option so I’m moving the tent to another location because of this, I definitely want to max out airflow on the next run.
Hi @SJ1, I would say the filtered intakes are an Absolute Must, at least for me. After a month, the filter looks dirty, after 2 months it looks gnarly! I clean the filters once a month usually.
If I did not have filtered intake, all of that dust would be on my buds and would definitely do a bud wash to clean it before consumption.
i currently have a blower fan pumping air from outside to inside. I have my top vent open in my tent so air can be forced out through the top. This does create a positive pressure. Nothing is currently filtered.
But, what my question is should i option A: leave it as is… or, B: switch it so its pushing air out and probably have multiple open vents to let more air in.
I think i might try and dyi a filter setup soon to make the environment more “clean”. But, i think i could only do that with option B. Because im pretty sure if i was to try and filter the blower fan, that could cause motor issues in the fan. Buying a ac infinity inline is currently out of my budget. So this is my current make due. Lol.
I have mine in the typical setup - carbon filter to inline to exhaust out the top. Only the mesh vent open at bottom of tent. Air is pulled out rather than pushed in.
But I might add some filter material to the intakes next run if I can find anything suitable.
Hi @ItsOzzie, this is hard for me to answer, since as you can see, I tend to do my set ups full-out-proper, and then i add some overkill to the set up on top of that
I guess you might wan to leave your set up in a positive pressure since you have no dust filters. Can you add another fan at the top hole to force air out? That should create more air flow.
Hi @Fatmanicus, you only need to bud wash if you are Not growing in a clean lung room, with filtered intakes on the tents. In the video I shared, the guy who used to bud wash, no longer needs to do it, because he now grows in filtered tents. He used to grow in an open room.
So if you are growing in an open room, or in a tent with no filter, or outside… then yes, I would highly suggest washing the plant at harvest, before you move to drying.
Yeah, my setup is definitely not a no wash scenario lol. In fact, knowing i can do a bud wash has made me more excited. Healthier and cleaner is what im after, that and cheaper, to be fair, im about to just stalk your growing methods and quit researching, i mean ill add a twist here or there, but yeah!. You seem to have gone down the same path I want to lol so why not? Lol
I’ll defo be washing mine on this run, they are absolutely covered in crap. Insect waste, spiderwebs, atmospheric dust (including dust from the Sahara Desert, we get a lot of that here) caked on from rain, the lot haha.
I’ve already lost two I think so I brought the good ones inside to finish. I am treating these as pure experiments now so if anyone wants anything trying out just let me know!
Yeah. I already bud wash after harvest. Done it a few times. It works ok, but i just dont really like the idea of it. but ultimately ill work my way into filtering everything. I actually try and clean the plants weekly through the whole grow.
It is only $13 Canadian dollars. It is a filtered Intake with Light baffling, you can install it anywhere on any tent. I think I might just get a few of these for my other grow tents. Since I think it would be cheaper to buy these, than buy the 6" ducting and filters. My only concern with this product is How do I clean the filter? Can I buy replacements?
