First Outdoor budget grow

Hey everyone! So I am currently doing my first outdoorgrow. Had to stick to a really tight budget and still keeping one. Looking for some friendly direction on where to go with what I currently have going on, and a few questions to ask!

So the seeds I had were from a bag of now and laterz shake from the dispensary, the bag was labeled seeded so I figured hell why not decent weed decent price and I can grow the seeds in the summer!

So I did have plans for a more organized grow with alot bigger budget but ended up using my hobbie money for the summer to help a friend financially.

So with no budget but still an itch to get them germinated at the start of may I made a bad choice bought some miracle grow organic seedling soil and little decompsable seedling pots. Well to my suprise after germination they took in the MG!

There were a few issues, we had a really cold may so I germinated and started them on the floor in front of a window. The seedlings did have stretching.

When I was able to get them outdoors the spot I have them gets 2 hours indirect light from 6am-8am, 8 hours of direct sunlight from 8am-4pm , no light from 8 pm-6am

During the first week of june I decided to repot because I was bored, well didnt have much money, so I got very crafty!

I made my own 3 gallon pots out of heavy lawn bags and painters tape i had and 1x3 gallon pot.
I went to home depot and bought a big bag of “black gold natural and organic” and a big back of ace hardware organic top soil which had perlite and sand in it. I made sure to bury the seedling a bit deeper to help with the stretching.

I wasnt really sure if it was going to go any further than that, honestly expected them to die. But after a week of being in the new soil they were doing good.

I knew I need nutrients and that was the next step, I researched the best nutrients and found at my local hydroponics store i could get advanced nutrients grow micro bloom set (500ml) for 16.

I started those about 5 days ago, mixing 2 ml of each into a gallon of water and splitting that between 3 plants. ( I was told to use half of what they recommended)

So we are what I would peg as the 1st-2nd week of veg. Every thing I’ve read says veg in michigan runs until first second week of August. So that gives me about 7 more weeks if veg. Than flower is mid August to mid October, which should give me the 60-70 days recommended for the strain.

next week I will be look carefully for sex and dispose of the males. any tips with this strain on when they show?

after they are all sexed I was thinking on repoting Into 5 gallon canvas growbags (10 for $18), do you think this is a good idea, or would I even benfiet from the bigger pots with only 7-8weeks of veg left? also should I stick with the black gold soil if I do, still trying to keep a budget!

Also when should i look into hedging/trimm them?

Any advice and direction would be greatly appreciated! I’ll try to answer any questions the best I can also! Thank you!

Welcome to the community @Joshcereal!! Glad to have you here! Very crafty with the bag pots lol, make sure they have drain holes and ways to get oxygen to the soil as well, and you should be able to start sexing them around weeks 4-5 of veg, I personally don’t do any trimming until I’m ready to start flowering, outdoors I just defoliate at the 3 weeks of flower point, outdoors the sun moves and gets good light throughout the plant naturally so you don’t have to trim/defoliate as much as indoor grows where the lights stationary. Main idea is at week 3 take off most of the large fan leaves and any leaves blocking a upper bud site. @Joshcereal, good luck with the grow and when in doubt call the community out and we will get you an answer as soon as possible!!

Thank you lol , I’ll be sure to keep an eye out for the sex.

Also does that go for topping and fimming to, what are your recommendations?

And do you think I should repot to 5 gal?

When you grow outdoors they can get up to 15 ft tall when planted in early March and need a lot of root space. With the size they are now they should still get around 5 ft tall or more depending how healthy they stay, I would wait until they are a few weeks older and move up to 10 gallon if you want some large flowers, the more space for the roots the larger the buds can get, in a 3 gallon they might get choked out in early flower and the buds may not swell. As for training outdoor plants I only topped mine every 2 weeks or so to get as many tops as I can over the course of the whole grow (March to august roughly) and just before flowering starts I would remove all the small and unproductive branches on the bottom 1/3 of the plant to be sure the plant sends the energy to grow fat flowers up top where it matters and defoliate on week 3 or as close to day 21 as I had time and remove any tiny bud sites on the lower 1/3 too. I personally never really fim my girls just traditional topping works great for me. @Joshcereal

I topped them for the first time yesterday and that went well. But I did discover mushrooms, I’m just gonna let them do there thing and not worry to much and just remove them when I repot in 2 weeks.

Now I think I’m going to repot into 7 gallon square grow bags. I can get 10 of them for 30 bucks. I should need about 6 cubic ft of soil.

But I do have questions about soil. I still need to keep cost low but any recommendations folks? I do have one of the largest nursurey in michigan down the street also, but what would I even ask from them?

Thanks for all the help folks
