I have 2 Auto GDP plants that I I just transplanted into bigger pots They are outdoors and at in vegetative state right now. About 12 inches high. I’ve started low stress training them, but Im wondering what nutrients I should use? Im totally new to this, long time smoker but have never grown. So brands and maybe some feeding schedules would be such a huge help. Hope you all can help me! Thanks!!
Welcome to the community bud. As for nutes there are so many lines to choose from and lots have there own personal preference but i personally use foxfarm nutes & currently using down to earth dry ammendments ive had good results with foxfarm and still use incase plants need something that not slow release and the DTE seems to be working well. I went the dry ammendent route because bottled nutes can get expensive and apparently mostly water but it has its benefits being fast active. Ive did some checking on DTE brand and lots of people approved it and learned it takes about 3 weeks to fully break down which helps me know how much NPK plant is getting each week (roughly). Foxfarm has a feeding schedule for soil and hydro ( you can google foxfarm feeding chart ) you really wont need all the stuff on the chart main things would be the trio set and calmag and rest will help a good deal but the set and calmag will get ya through a grow and for autos its a debatable discussion but with FF nutes only use about 1/4 strength at first and slowly work up to half strength (again wicked debatable just my opinion) Can i ask what type of soil your using? Ive only grown in FF soil so not sure if the FF nutes are specifically designed FF soil or universal. Others on here will probably tell you there choices as well and why so youll have a good list to choose from hope this helps and happy growing
So the pots I have them in are still filled with a garden soil from last year. It’s nothing crazy just has some perlite in it. I don’t think there is any food left in the soil as it only fed for three months and it’s more than a year old. The only other thing added to that soil was some compost but again that was last year. I purchased the pack from fox farms (plant food, big bloom, tiger bloom, calmag)
I would still start off at about 1/4 strength and see how plants react to it and if no signs of nute burn or anything you could up to half dose and slowly increase if plant likes it. I dont feed every watering i prefer every other watering this way less chance of salt build up but thats just a personal preference and calmag i give 5ml once a week
well, Smokey101 chart and instructions for dosage is right on point, just be 100% sure of your PH as not to block the nutrients the plants need.
with Auto flower, i find I only feed once grow Cal i dont have time to feed more than that… but i find i eat up the bloom and booster as weekly i feed the plants from pre - up to flush, which is 8-10 weeks then 10-14 days flush while ripening. Myself i dont use organics at all, way to many issues, i use coco coir perlite, a hydro medium. I use 10-50-10 50ml + cinnamon + root boost powder +coco 70% + perlite 30% in a #3 nursery pot with loads of drainage wholes and airflow wholes throughout the pot. ive had 0 issues using that method. Soil or organics, non stop issues with diseasez molds, rot, ph blocks, ect… Soil organics means less watering less feeding if any and harder to dry up the pots. this is what I found, not meaning its everyone. lol
You all have helped so much. I guess I’m just going to have to play around and learn on the go. I do have a ph meter I just got it today. So I’ll be testing my soil, if I do need to bring ph of soil up or down, how would I do that?
There is 2 ways naturally and using chemicals
PH UP PH DOWN are available at most stores and nurseries.
Vinegar drop by drop test beteen drops lowers ph
Baking soda 1/4 tsp at a time test between Increases PH
rain water is ph 7 insert just like coco coir
Tap water is between 6 5 - 9 ph.
Nutrients bring down ph naturally so test AFTER adding nutes
Watering should be the same ph all the time.
testing ph is easy, run 4 ltrs slowly through the plant and catch the run off water. at the last of the rinse ro test, capture some of that water in a separate container and test that for ph. If under 5.5 is acidic if above 6.5 it is high base or not acidic enough.
5.5 -6.5 is ideal for all Marijuana strains.
some like 6.5 rather than 5.5 depends on strain
Also, During the grow stages, some plants like different ph levels during each phase. again Genetics depending.
if your run off is low, add baking soda to the water and bring the ph up 1 point before watering. then water again 4 ltrs and test the last of the RO.
Rpeat that process using Vinegar to reduce ph if the RI test ph is Higher than 6.5.
again increase by 1 ph then water 4ltrs and test Ro.
once you know the sqeet spot, write it down.
test the Tap water every week as the plants makes changes often.
Hi @Jimmy2Shoes, welcome to the community! All the advice given is fantastic. I wanted to share what I use as my pH up and pH down. After adding my nutrients to my water, I use Potassium Silicate (Silica) to bring the pH up, and I add Kelp extract to bring the pH down. Both of these are absolutely fantastically beneficial to the plant. the silica will make the cell walls stronger and silica is also the pre-cursor to trichome production. Kelp will provide plan protect, plant recovery, the list goes on.
… al the being said, Baking soda and vinegar also work to adjust pH, they are just not adding any additional benefit.
NOTE: Do not use lemon juice as it caries flavonoids that can cause imbalance in the soil.
Hey sorry for the wicked late response was on trains and subways all day but it looks like youve got some great advice from davil and rasta and would consider there input. Dont really have much else to add to there post since they pretty much covered it but just wanted to reply so it didnt seem like i just fked off and forgot about ya lol
I can’t help you with the fertilizer. But I had a look at growlog and I highly recommend you getting rid of that strings around your plant’s. Or at least make it more loose and make a piece of cotton between. Otherwise it could happen that the strings cuts through your plants.
@Lynx_361, absolutely fantastic point, you have a good eye!
@Jimmy2Shoes , you want to use soft garden ties to train your plant, you can simply hook or wrap loosely them around the stalk/branch. I see in the pictures in your growlog, the string is tied around the stem wish not good at all.
Good job, I think there was an issue with the link you just posted, it didn’t go anywhere, so i fixed it to point to the first growlog link you shared above. I say the new pictures there, so I think I id a good thing
