What strain are you growing? It is Purple Smokey Butt Autoflower and Afgooey Autoflower both from Pacific Seed Bank.
Is it Auto, Fem or Reg? Auto Femenized.
Are you growing Indoor or outdoor? Indoors
Are you using nutrients? Gaia Green 444,284, and earthworm castings. How much? 10tbs of 284 and 20tbs of 444 and 2.8 cups of work castings per 5 gallon pot besides the rooting which is more inert.
I have a humidifier going to keep it at 80% humidity, cause the domes seemed to keep the soil too saturated and I already lost 3 seeds. I have been directly planting them j to the soil
It has now been about 5 days. One of the seeds that I thought disappeared has somehow broke through. But middle one hasn’t and the right one, well that one DID disappear as I checked and i think I found a brown taproot but I definitely could be wrong. So I have begun a paper towel method like I would with my photoperiod plants just cause I know it has a better chance of working.
First off, welcome to the world of growing autos—it can be a little tricky at first, but you’ll get the hang of it! From what you’ve shared, it sounds like your setup has a lot of potential, but there are just a few adjustments you can make to improve your chances of getting these babies going.
Planting directly into the soil can work, but autos can be a little fussy about moisture levels early on. It’s great that you’ve adjusted by removing the domes and switching to the paper towel method. That’s usually the best way to give seeds the perfect start since you can control moisture and see when the taproot appears.
For the soil, it sounds like it might be a bit too rich for germination. Autoflowers don’t need a lot of nutrients when they’re starting out, so the mix with Gaia Green and worm castings might be too strong for the seeds. Next time, try a seed-starting mix or even just a lighter soil blend for the first week or two before moving them to the nutrient-rich medium.
Your humidity at 80% is solid for germination, but just keep an eye on the soil—too much water can suffocate the seeds or rot the roots. Make sure it’s moist but not soaking wet, and water lightly with a spray bottle instead of pouring.
It’s a bummer that you lost a few seeds, but the fact that one has sprouted is a good sign! Stick with the paper towel method for the others, keep them warm (around 70-80°F), and carefully plant them in the soil, root facing down once you see a taproot.
You’re on the right track, and with a little patience, you’ll have those Purple Smokey Butt and Afgooey seedlings thriving in no time! Keep us posted, and feel free to reach out if you have more questions.
Hi and welcome, I now only plant photoperiod strains, indoor autos I will only plant outdoors in the summer. I have already done a few grows and use Biobizz lightmix as soil. I fertilize with Biotabs and Biobizz. I didn’t want to bother with mineral fertilizers at first. My first grows were half failures, hermaphrodites and pollinated flowers were the result. I currently have two Ayahouasca Purple in bloom, I really like the strain Cliff
