Hey guys, thinking of doing my first top feed for Veg in the next couple of days (week 4) but not sure where to start and how much to add. I just trimmed my girls and so I will let them recover a bit before topfeeding.
they have been growing in Fox Farm Happy Frog with a little dolomite and myco added.
On hand I have some bloodmeal (14-0-0), mineralized phosphate (0-9-0), kelp meal (1-0-2), all purpose (4-4-4) and bloom (2-8-4) all of them dry organics amenents.
if anyone has experience with organic top feed, I’d appreciate your input.
Hi. Your plants are looking really nice and healthy. Good coloration too although the fans look a bit dark green.
Your choice of kelp, all-purpose and mineralized phosphate would be my choice for top dressing at this point. I usually keep a pre-mix of equal parts kelp meal and all-purpose and top dress about 1/3-1/2 cup. The mineralized phosphate can be added into the mix although the bloom can be substituted as they are both high in P, necessary in the flowering stages along with K. I just add the mineralized phosphate during flowering phase.
The reason I left out blood meal is partly because of your leaf coloration already but also blood meal is so hot in N it is easy to over apply. I find it easier to apply judiciously when I suspect the plants are suffering from N deficiency. Then I can either top dress or make a tea of it for feed.
Thanks for answering so quickly.
May I ask how much per gallon and how much mineralized phosphate would you add to the mix for veg? also what about Mycorrhizal inoculants?
Well, I just use the mineralized phosphate during the flowering phase when the plant could use additional P along with K. For veg, I would leave it out personally but you could add an equal amount to the mix. It is medium release so will take a bit of time to decompose and work its magic. Same with the kelp and the All Purpose. I believe you are using Gaia Green? Good stuff!
Gaia Green indeed. used them on my tomatoes last summer and they did work their magic.
Ok, so if I got this straigh, I mix equal parts kelp meal and all purpose 4-4-4 and top dress the medium.
I’ll refrain of adding P to the mix and will wait for flowering.
last question, should I add a litlle bit of dolomite lime to add cal/mag?
You got it! You can add dolomite lime to your media if you wish. It is fairly long on release. Are you trying to correct PH issues or what?
Re: “…Mycorrhizal inoculants?..” I’ve never used these products unless they were added in the soil mix (ProMix HP and others).I think this would be more useful at the start since its main role is to assist in root development. But others may have differing opinions.
with dolomite I’m trying to not come short on cal/mag although I don’t see signs of deficiencies yet. I figured that a little bit of that couldn’t hurt since cannabis plants uaually love sustained levels of Ca/Mg.
