Haha… WHY?! What were the designers of that thing thinking?
Supplemental lighting below the canopy I’d buy one to at least try it if it were cheap enough.
can it hang or does it sit on the ground? I’m just curious
Corn cob bulbs like that are fairly cheap compared to a regular grow light. I actually use to use a corn cob fixture that I built for veg and it cost me nothing as all the parts I used were from a HPS fixture that was bad so I converted to led corn cob grow light.
Those corn cobs are all self contained, meaning the bulb has it’s drivers and fans built into the body of the bulb so they stay cool.
Hmm… I don’t know… I think there are better solutions for that. Only the fact, that this thing is so huge would make choose something else for this job. I mean 60W, average PPFD of 248 in a 2x2 setup and all this for about 100$. I wouldn’t touch that thing.
It’s a video. Check it out! The guy were hanging it under a reflector.
That’s fine for you but these exist for a reason. I can tell you from experience that they work well in a pinch.
I don’t need to see the video. I rebuild and retro fit cmh and HPS fixture highbay lights to these corn cob bulbs all the time for work when I’m not busy with my actual job. I use one all the time for my house plants that don’t flower in the winter and it works fantastically. This one is I my 5k so it’s only good to use for my snake plants and my aloe, the plants I have that don’t flower.
You might be right but idk… I can’t argue with someone with hand on experience. But the numbers he measured the in that 2x2 were not so convincing. But it’s definitely an exotic design…
Oh cool! But it’s way smaller. Haw much Watt pulls that light?
This one is equivilant to a 150w MH fixture. These bulbs (most) have a dimmer in them too. These bulbs have their uses in a pinch. I agree with you though, I would not intentionally run a full grow under one.
I think you would have problems from the beginning with straching seedlings and so on. 248PPFD in a 2x2 is in my opinion not enough. But yeah… it’s probably not the idea to ruin a full grow with that light.
You can hang it in between plants and add extra lighting with minimal temperature difference. Look up any vertical light setup. I used to have bare bulb and sockets hanging between plants. Better light coverage was the overall idea i think. Hope this helps explain
If you hang it between the plant there is no space for the plants left and it is so ineffective! It gives you the light output of a candle but pulls 60W. Feel free to get one but the are an infinite number of lights which would do a better job.
It all depends on space. I have never used an led in that manner but have used 600 watt hid lamps in between plants. Sorry my advice didnt help. My suggestion is just from my experiences over the last 20 years. Good luck
I was just wondering if it stood up on its own or not…would be great for under lighting the plants.
You could use it hanging or standing. You have to build something for it anyway. It’s a giant bulb. I know I replied my self but the light output of this peticular light is not enough to grow any plant and you get 0.4 PPFD Watt which is horrible inefficient.
I was thinking more supplemental to get light to the bottom of plants in a SOG where they would be limited in what they get with the canopy blocking most the light.
I don’t own that light. I just found that review and I just found it funny…
