Looks like the heatwave we had here in Spain this summer has wrecked my outdoor girls. Buds are all wispy and thin, they are still producing but do not look good at all.
They still have about 3-4 weeks left but I am not very hopeful they will produce anything decent, at least for smoking.
Growshop dude reckons the heat caused a shit ton of issues for growers in spain this year, could be the reason my indoors all produced seed.
Should I bother keeping them going to the finish line or just trash them now?
If keep then what would you do with the harvest, assuming they are no good for smoking would a concentrate be any good?
Tempted to trash them tbh and get some rapid autos on the go. Can’t be arsed with a metric ton of crappy weed lol.
yeah i know what you mean but i already have about 8ozs from my indoor run, of which half is shite because of the heat - they ended up producing seeds, and the heat drove off much of the terps so a lot of it is tasteless.
the thought of having another 20+ ozs of more shitty weed is not exactly filling me with excitement but then i am thinking maybe just finish them off, select only the absolute best buds and make them into oil or hash or something.
or, trash the lot, and start a new indoor run. (growshop dude gave me some free Red Strawberry Banana auto seeds which are ready in 8 weeks from sprouting apparently, so i could have a whole new stash of grade A buds in 2 months).
wondering if anyone has had a similar situation and interested to hear what they did.
Yeah, i agree with you. Your definitely not going to smoke on some less quality product if you have plenty of good stuff to smoke. Heat stress really kills the terpenes. Plants dont get frosty (Normally). I sorta had that issue on my most recent grow. But mine was indoors. This will be my last indoor summer grow because of it.I had 2 plants side by side, different genetics. One loved the heat, the other not at all. Its crazy how different one plant is from another.
Tearing down a plant is a tough decision. Good luck man.
yeah its a real shame but think I am gonna trash them. Was looking at them earlier and the amount of work to harvest what is basically all larf is just not worth it imo. Also, overnight the main stem on one has split right down the middle, which is only gonna stress it further.
Better to put my energy into a new run I think.
But i learned a ton from this so it’s not a waste at all.

Heat stress really kills the terpenes
- huuge lesson - it really does. A lot of my indoor run is tasteless as the first week of drying was in 85 degree temps, whereas the second half that finished a week later I dried in 65F temps and the taste is so much more pronounced. But the stress on the outdoor girls has absolutely ruined them, not just the terps but the plant itself.
- likewise.
@slow.motion - ah nice where are you bro? I’m on the costa del sol, estepona area.
thanks for the tip, will look into that cheers. Yeah I had the same temps indoors too, and that was in the basement!
going forward this whole experience has made me realise I would far rather have small quantities of grade A weed than a shit ton of average.
so my plan for the next run is to do 4 autos. all different strains so i have a good variety. quick turnarounds, do maybe 3 or 4 harvests a year. that would give me plenty of smoke, and a constant variety of strains to try.
I think a lot of people focus on yield whereas I am not interested in massive yields at all, quality and variety is gonna be my focus from now on.
next run gonna be mint. new diary coming soon haha
Auto flowers have gotten excellent the last 10 years. I agree, quality over quantity forsure. Ill probably do 2 runs a year. Start germination in Late winter and late summer. My grow is in the garage, its easy for me to heat the plants, but, cooling them would just be too costly. Would have to buy a bigger tent and a a/c. Growing outdoors isnt currently an option. Its not legal to grow here without a license.
yeah i am in the basement, no heating or cooling but where I am we don’t need heat at all and ac would be way too expensive to install just for this so winter growing for me too from now on.
this summer was so brutal even our market garden didn’t produce. All the fruit and veg we planted either didn’t produce, died or produced knarly, shitty fruits. Even the chili plants died. The apples and pears were actually cooked on the tree they got so hot. Never seen that before. No wonder my girls are fucked.
