Hey everyone! This is my story!

Hi! I’m a 31 year old Canadian dude. A little over a year ago, I had no plants of any type. My gf moved out to learn how to be an adult before we took the next step.

We were still together, but something was missing, so I decided to buy a plant. It was a majestic palm from Walmart. Within a few weeks, my single plant turned into over 20 house plants. They filled the void I was feeling, and they also fill my living room. I started getting called plant guy at work. It was great.

Soon after, people started asking me when I would start growing pot. After all, I’ve been a daily user for over half my life. I would humm and haww and twiddle my way around the subject, but the truth is, I was intimidated. I have an obsessive nature when it comes to interests and the amount of info out there had me 100% overwhelmed. I avoided the shit out of that. Then one day, a few months ago, I put a seed I found in a bag of weed into some soil in a little decorative planter just for shits and giggles, just to “see what would happen”.

That was my dragon. That first hit, the sight of it popping up out of the dirt soon filled me with a feeling of wonder, curiosity, and power. I felt responsible for the life I had helped to create. I watched as magic took place before my eyes. Within days, this little seed was growing little leaves. I felt the need to make it thrive. So it chilled on my speaker and I put a lamp on it. Some miracle grow light from Amazon that made it stretch. Cause that’s all it takes, right?

“This will not do”, I thought, after a couple weeks of this. It was stretching and overall just not super happy. Had some dark colors on the underside of leaves, was just looking as healthy as other houseplants.

So I ordered a mediocre grow light that’s actually for growing weed from Amazon, and stuck it in a closet with 3 other seeds ide since sprouted . Its a Phlizon 1000w cree cob, and I figured it would be more than adequate. (Which turned out to be uninformed and naive of me after they grew).

I watched as my plants flourished and grew and was amazed (and still am) at how fast these tiny little magic beans were sprouting into beanstalks. I felt like Jack, and the more they grew the closer I was getting to a magical castle of bud in the sky. It is a feeling that I can only describe as the feeling you get at Christmas as a kid. The thrill of the unexpected, the risk of being naughty and getting coal, daydreams of the excitement or possible disappointment of Christmas morning, all adding in to the the thrill and the hype. My girlfriend, who had since moved back in after a year living apart, was even jealous at how much I would talk about and read about caring for these plants. (She is a huge pothead and 100% supports me, but I talk about them as my girls so you know how it goes)

After a little while, however; I realized that my closet and my plant light were not enough. They were growing tall, and I had not practiced any LST at this point. Two of them were showing little balls, and after consulting the folks over at R/microgrowery on Reddit I sacrificed them to the weed gods in the hopeful exchange of bountiful fruits on the remaining two plants.

In anticipation of their impending stretch, and running out of vertical space in the closet to hang my light, I started planting seeds with my partner. Like… brain seeds, to convince her to let me spend more. You see, I had a bonus coming from work, and we spend a lot on weed, so why not go big, right? One good big purchase to do this thing right. She agreed.

I had a 1000 dollar budget. I ordered a 4x4 tent, a 2000w Phlizon, a 6inch fan system and some nutrients from future harvest. My dad contributed a Mars hydro ts1000 in exchange for future trimmings to make butter, and I also just ordered a kingbrite 240w from Alibaba. Unfortunately for my original plants little sis, she just hermied mid flower (I caught it early and moved outside to hopefully finish). But that original seed that I planted? She’s in week five of flower and doing better than I ever imagined she could have. She’s taken all my blunders and persevered. I’ve super cropped her, I’ve Kyle Kushman spine cracked her, I’ve locked her out of cal/mag once or twice and I pulled her out of a N deficiency. She has the internet to thank for fixing that. Anyway that basically beings me up until current day. This is my story. This is my journey.

TLDR: loved houseplants for a while. Started growing weed. Still a noob.

I’m with you about still being a noob. I have been growing for a while and I feel like every new grow I am still a noob. Every one is different.

I will say I started with a Phlizon light as well. Although I started with the “600w newest” piece of garbage on Amazon because I knew nothing. I got through 1 grow with that and was very underwhelmed. I found a craigslist score for a Platinum p300 which blew my mind. The build quality and the amount of light output made the Phlizon look silly. So much so that now I use the Phlizon light as a side light. I have 2 plants in my flowering tent that the Platinum at 18" will start to bleach the tips of the leaves and the Phlizon at 6" (can’t go closer because I need to reach the whole canopy) won’t.

I am hoping that your cree cob and your Marhydro are adequate. I know how frustrating it is to take such great care of a plant to only see 14g yield. If you want those big dense buds the size of your face you need light. GL man, hope to see your logs in the future.

Thanks man! I’m hoping they are adequate as well. So far they are flowering my remaining plant quite well but there is some density to be desired in the bud structure. This may correct itself though as there is still 3 or 4 weeks till harvest and I’ve never grown before so I don’t know what to expect. Is there a way to attach pictures in this topic? Edit: found it!

Some of those buds look like heavy hitters. I would stake those outside ones creeping up from the bottom of the plant. If you’ve still got 3-4 weeks until harvest they’ll definitely still pack on some weight. For bagseed and your first grow, this is amazing.
