Hi. just wanted to introduce myself to the community by sharing my journey so far and a few pics

Hi everyone. I’m not really supposed to grow where I live so I’ll keep the personal details to a minimum. But this is my second time growing, the first time was nearly 20 years ago and I’ve been wanting to do it again for ages but life got in the way. The first time I did it was before LED lights where even a thing, grew four plants to maturity, and it was a very painless experience.

This time however I’m using a hydroponics system, Waterfarm, Waterpack ACS from General Hydroponics. Also using the tree part nutrient system from them. And a grow light that has high ratings at the time I bought it. But I bought all this stuff about ten years ago when I was planning to grow but never got around to it so it’s a bit dated now. Anyway, I’ve had nothing but trouble, compared to when I grew in soil this has been a complete disaster.

I’m not expecting much at all from this first grow, these plants have been trough so much trauma, even had to completely cut of the roots on my most healthy one. Two died shortly after transplant to the big pots. I started two new ones, one of which also died and the other I just moved to soil pot and it’s doing fine now although a bit stretchy. Out of the two still in the hydroponics system I was sure one was dead, it looked completely dead, but then green appeared again and suddenly it started growing, but it’s probably very stunted due to that.

Both have had their roots cut due to root rot. System had to be emptied, cleaned, sterilised, it was a whole operation. Good thing I got this in the bathroom because if not that would have been a disaster. Anyway, after all that and much more, they’ve finally gotten to the flowering stage. Like I said, I’m not expecting much of a harvest, but at least now I’m hopeful there will be a harvest. And I realise a lot of this is due to my inexperience with hydroponics, but I can’t help but think that for a small scale 4 plant grow hydro is just not worth it.

Anyway, these are my plants as they’re doing today. The first picture is my “grown room” (bathroom), one plant has taken over the entire space, you can barely see the other one behind it. And the little one in the pot on top of the water tank is the one I moved to dirt, it’s well behind the other two. The second and third picture are the two traumatized ones that are flowering. I of course lost track of what was what during everything, but I’m now fairly confident the big one is a Gorilla Cookie auto. Not sure about the one with the very white and longer pistils and smaller leaves.

Anyway, that’s my story so far. Nice to meet the community here, I’m really liking the app and it’ll be very helpful to keep track of things in round two, as I plan on making this a regular thing despite my current misfortune. It’s going to be a soil grow next time though lol.

Welcome to the family growmie! Your plants look great, nice and healthy. I think you’ll have a much easier time in soil next run. That’s all I run, I do living soil so I can reuse the soil pretty much forever.

I love the grow log app too. That thing has been great being able to look at previous grows and figure out what you could do better. Also helps me remember I did thing and when I did them. Being a stoner I forget those things.

Anyway welcome again, can’t wait to see you journey with the hobby.

I would suggest coco coir. You can get the ease of soil with hydro results. That’s bc it’s in between the two. I love using it! I use Gaia Green for the basic nutes. I add about 20% charcoal to the coco. I also add microbes, seaweed and fish fertilizer, silica, cal/mag, and Epsom salts to the mix on Mondays and Fridays. I use 10gallon pots and reuse the coco. I cut 1 plant out and replace it with another one. My plants have improved every year and I’m guessing its bc the medium improves, this is the fourth grow of reusing.
