Help with a fresh start

Hello, I bought 2 new autoflowers today. How should I start now? Should I first put the seeds in the grow mix soil and how much water should I give? I’m doing everything old school without a grow box.

Thanks a lot, Magic.

When can I put them in the soil?

With autoflowers, it’s usually best to plant the seed directly into its final pot once it has germinated and the taproot is visible (typically 0.5-1 cm / ¼-½ inch long).

Autoflowers have a short vegetative stage, so minimizing transplant stress helps them reach their full potential.

Plant it about 1 - 2 cm (½ inch) deep with the taproot pointing down, keep the medium lightly moist (not soaked), and let the seedling do the rest. :seedling:

If you need information about how to germinate it, I always suggest GWJ Growing Guides: How to germinate Cannabis seeds: a guide for beginners

Hi @Dragon, if I understand you correctly, you are growing them outdoors. Let the seed germinate; it usually works well in a paper towel. Place the whole thing in a warm and dark place. It shouldn’t be too warm, or you’ll cook it. If all goes well, it will sprout in 1-2 days. Once the taproot is out, about 1 cm, plant it directly into the final pot. Then water it well, but not too much, and then put a dome over it (plastic cup/bottle) whatever you have at hand. It’s best to fix it with toothpicks or similar so it doesn’t blow away outdoors. With the heat we’re having right now, I would rather place it in the shade until it has grown a bit, and definitely avoid the midday sun at first. When the leaves touch the cup, you can remove it; by then, the little one has enough roots to absorb its water through them; before that, it gets it from the air. It’s been a few years since I cultivated autos and outdoors, but that’s how I always had a good start with the little ones.

Thanks @herr_gruen

No, I do all of this indoors, because our neighbors have too much of a mouth:grin: you know what I mean, and currently here in South Tyrol, Italy, it’s rather humid and wet with thunderstorms.

OK, that’s good, like spring . Seedlings need about 75% humidity, so I would still put the dome over them at the beginning. But if it’s not too hot, they can also be in the sun. I would only shade them a bit from the midday sun until they are a bit stronger.

Thanks @herr_gruen. Well, there’s no sun :sun: at the moment. But thanks, good to know.:folded_hands:

To avoid overwatering the soil from the start.
I would moisten it with a maximum of 100 ml per liter of soil.
Let it soak in for half

A good way to figure out how much you should water is by the weight of the pot or the 10% metric. Water with 10% of the pot size, if you have a 10 gallon pot water with 3/4-1 gallon of water. With a 1 gallon pot water with 1/3 liter.
