I’ve been on a drip system for over a year, saw a huge difference in overall plant quality and yield compared to hand watering.

I’m on my 3rd run with it, 2nd full run. Blumats were the best investment I’ve made.

Yeah? I don’t know why it doesn’t convince me, in my head, I don’t know why honestly, it’s not good for the soil to always be wet, although given what I’ve seen… I’ll probably buy it, but still… in my head, that just doesn’t quite convince me, it’s probably

A drip system is not supposed to run 24/7. First, you need to figure out how long it takes for the system to pump the desired amount of water. Then, based on that and depending on the growing medium, you create a schedule. For example, you’re growing in coco coir and your plant is 3 weeks old. You want to give it 500ml of water a day, and it takes 60 seconds to pump 500ml through. Then you could run the system for 20 seconds when the lights come on, then again for 20 seconds 4 hours later, and then again for 20 seconds another 4 hours later. Just as an example..

Blumats you don’t even do all that. The sensor (carrot) is calibrated that when the soil drys to a set point the valve let’s water through. The preset carrots like I have, have 2 set points, one wetter and one dryer. You can turn the dial to find your optimal setting. They also have a soil moisture meter that I used to dial in the right setting.

love the blumats system. was a little pricey but imo was worth it for the troubles i was having with the garden beds. i was also curious if constant moisture was going to hurt the grow but the carrots do create a dry back phase before releasing water. the carrots only release water when the soil reaches a certain dryness and your able to fine tune it fairly easy with a little height adjusting and cap dialing

I finally got home to find that despite 3 weeks of neglect the plants aren’t doing to bad overall, a bit of hunger and thirst but not as bad as i expected. Even the solo cup size one bounced straight back after a watering, its got a drink about a week ago too though.

Mine is automated, it pumps 400ml a minute. I have mine running across 4 pots at 8 minutes a day so my soil tends to dry up by midnight. Then gradually increase the time proportionately as the plants demands grow. It’s not necessary to go 24/7

That part I don’t know. I have seen them used in coco before but I can’t say about anything else. Their customer service is amazing though, shoot them an email.

Yes, I’ll probably end up buying it. If I get it, the only job would be pruning, and it would be a good relief of time and effort, but like everyone else, my wife won’t let me buy it soon, I’ll have to wait.

Before talking about the bluemat, I was thinking about continuous drip irrigation with a water tank and an oxygenation pump, something like in hydro but for substrate, with light waterings every day or every two days, but it seems like a foolish idea to me. In my head, it made sense to keep the substrate always wet if the water given was oxygenated, but
