I’m never perfect on my readings but just try to aim for these and adjust as needed
Bro I don’t even follow that anymore. As long as temps are below 80 and rh is around 50-55 I’m happy. That’s seedling to harvest. And you see my results
Thanks everyone for the replies and continued help. I’m a mechanic by trade and that’s what I’ve always been. So this new “hobby” is nothing I’ve ever tried or know anything about. Closes to growing anything I’ve ever done is buy flowers. I’m really enjoying learning and watching my plants change and grow. I sincerely appreciate everyone that has taken the time to help me.
It’s an addictive hobby especially once you learn what works for you. There is no 1 right way to grow so keep learning and doing what you find works. This is a great community and we’ll help you anytime. Happy growing grow bro
Thank you. It’s been really nice having conversations and learning from this community. I hope to share some nice results one day soon.
What do yall feel is more important to keep on target far as the humidity vs the VPD? My temp and humidity are within range but the VPD is running high around 1.8. Temp at 80 and humidity 50-55.
1.8 is terribly high. Your plants are going to burn thru nutes and water. Watch out for nute burn that way. You are in flower. Bring the temps down.
Can you store the leaf temperature? Or do you have an extra VPD sensor? However, even at two degrees Celsius the required VPD changes enormously. Otherwise increase your humidity or lower the temperature.
Cliff
When you were doing the set-up for your controller did you measure leaf temperature and add that in as an offset to the vpd calculator? It just means taking the temperature of a leaf with a laser type thermometer and checking the difference between that and the room temp. As cliff said it will completely change the vpd that you are seeing and make it a bit less stressful. All that said 1.8 isn’t the end of the world either, ive caught mine as high as 2.25 on this current run due to our nasty start to summer here but by feeding higher strength nutrients and raising c02 you can make them thrive in harsh conditions if necessary. Sometimes dropping temperatures is impossible but there is other ways to get them through
Just out of curiosity on the numbers i played around with the settings on mine. With no offset entered vpd was reading 1.35, after adding in my -2°c offset from leaf temp it dropped to 0.95. That’s the sort of difference in the readings that you get
I did not do that but I will today after work. I’m going to stop and get an infrared thermometer and calibrate it like you pointed out. I see that offset can make a huge difference. The plants seem to be getting what they want… I only say that because they are really putting the foliage out. Not really flying through water. I water once every 3-4 days. Whenever the soil is completely dry the first inch or so.
I bought two clones in the beginning. They were in my shop/garage. I believe a mouse attacked one of my plants and left just a stalk standing. I didn’t know if she would make it so never posted about having a second plant. The second picture was taken yesterday morning. I have used some wire pipe cleaners to train the limbs. Watched some YouTube videos like you guys recommended and gave it a shot. She started coming back and now she’s growing inches a day.
I’m not sure on that cliff. I’m still trying to figure this thing out honestly. I do know I have only 1 probe doing all the readings. I’m going to do the calculation offsets this afternoon.
You was spot on with this one. She’s kicking leaves out all over and they are strange.
Since I only have two plants and I’m weird I named them since I talk to them some. I call them Lavern and Shirley. Lavern is the one master splinter kicked the shit out of.
then your VPD value is calculated from your data temperature and humidity. there are also special sensors that are placed in the foliage to simulate a leaf. just remember that every time you change your lamp, whether height or power, you may have to reset the offset
She looks fine man. So far so good! Keep the timer set as is, feed some notrogen and she will beast up. Good luck!
They are looking beautiful mate. Nice work
Thank you.
