Has anyone tried using a bag of ice immediately prior to putting the plants into 48 of darkness? I’m told the ice should lay on top of the medium around the plant base and the ice water shocks the plant…it supposedly produces more in its death throes.
intriguing…im in hydro about to harvest. might try it. always used cold watwr but never iced water. my jungle gmo looks so good i dont want to risk it tho. any proven results on the net?
As I plant physiologist and biologist specializing in cannabis I can assure you that the “48 hour light depravation” prior to harvest is typical “street” mythology and Youtube bull. One aspect of trichome production in cannabis is protection against chromosomal mutation and DNA damage caused by UV light, particularly UVC by shading the surface area of the leaf and flower lessoning UVA, UVB and UVC light penetration. Therefore, more light equals more trichome production which equals more THCA and more ∆9-THC production at the cellular level within the trichome. 48 hour light deprivation would actually slow down trichome production hence slowing down THC production.

looks like 48 hours darkness will swell the trichs. problem with that is if you harvest at the usual time the trichs could swell up and convert the THC to CBG turning it that amber color. I would suggest if you are going to do a 48 darkness then maybe harvest 3-4 days early. There are plenty of products that make the colas and trich swell the last week. IDK about this one.
as far as the ice…from what i am reading it will just make the trichs more fragile which means loss of potency when handling it during drying and curing.
I woked for the best MSO on the mainland. I found that just flush as usual. but keep the temps LOW AF. most of the good terps and flavanoids can get lost when temps reach abover 75 degrees. I have always dried at 49% RH and a solid temp of 65 degrees and my bud has never been better. Also after the 14 days cure i add a Boveda pack to my mason jars. VERY IMPORTANT! DO NOT USE ANY 2 WAY HUMMIDITY PACK OVER 50%! IT WILL MAKE YOUR BUD RETAIN MORE WATER AND GET A MUSKY SMELL. I ALWAYS USE BOVEDA 49% INSTRUMENT PACKS. Trust me, this MSO spent thousands R&Ding it. Stick with science.
Never heard of it, but it makes sense.
I did that with regular plants that had the soil too dry and the leaves were all droopy, and it went back to life within hours
I’m about to drop the flush in as usual, yesterday I raised the lights to the highest level and dimmed it to the lowest setting. IMO this will lower the heat level inside the tent and preserve more terps from degrading. I will not be doing darkness or ice. I’m going to harvest after the flush and let it dry in a 65 degree 49% RH controlled environment until the moisture content sample reaches <13%. Usually takes about 5-6 days for a nice slow dry. Keeping it dark, won’t let the trichomes get light degradation. Keeping it cool between 65-70 degrees will keep the terpenes and flavanoids from rupturing and expelling the dankness. A nice slow dry of 47-53% RH will keep the buds from becoming brittle and harsh. The key to drying and curing is to rid water and chlorophyll slowly. Once its all clean, burped and cured for for 20 mins/day X 14 days. I then go amber mason jars with Boveda 49% 2 way humidity packs for 2 weeks. I usually break me out what i need, then cure for another 2 months to be solid. Hope this helps. Also look up 3mm Grove bags, they are passive cure bags than wick away the gasses so you don’t have to burp. It was a game changer for me ma bradda.
