The JADAM method is an organic farming technique developed by Korean farmer Kim Chan Jong, which is characterized by its focus on the use of microorganisms and natural products to increase soil health, control pests and diseases without the need for chemical pesticides or synthetic fertilizers.

JADAM PRINCIPLES

The goal of the JADAM method is to provide a healthy and sustainable alternative to conventional agriculture. Furthermore, it is based on fundamental principles such as: strengthening the natural resistance of plants, stimulating the growth of beneficial microorganisms, promoting ecological balance, making the most of natural resources and minimizing environmental impact.

JADAM METHOD PREPARATIONS

One of the most popular preparations of the JADAM method is Jadam Microbial Solution (JMS). This preparation is made with ingredients such as forest mulch, potatoes, soft water and salt, and its objective is to increase the population of beneficial microorganisms in the soil and on the plants, which helps to increase the natural resistance of the plants, to control plagues and diseases.

Another important preparation in the JADAM method is Jadam Wetting Agent (JWA). This is an organic soap solution that is prepared with water, potassium hydroxide, canola oil. This product helps improve the penetration of microbial, herbal or other solutions used foliarly on plants, increasing their effectiveness.

Jadam Sulfur is another key product in the JADAM method, it is an organic sulfur solution made with sulfur, sodium hydroxide (also known as caustic soda, sea salt and water. It is used to control pests and diseases in crops.

Additionally, The JADAM method also includes the use of herbal solutions to control crop pests and diseases. They are simple to prepare and consist of boiling plants or herbs that are insect repellents. You could use, for example, tobacco, catnip, rosemary, oregano, etc. among others.

JADAM IN CANNABIS CULTIVATION.

Regarding its use in cannabis cultivation, the JADAM method could be an excellent option for those producers seeking to reduce environmental impact and obtain a chemical-free and safe product for medicinal users, for example.

Of course, more in-depth research is necessary to determine the effectiveness of the JADAM method in cannabis cultivation and the best practices for implementing it. However, if done correctly, this method could provide a viable alternative for controlling pests and diseases in crops, as well as improving their quality and safety for human consumption.

ORGANIC INSECTICIDES USED IN THE JADAM METHOD

To control pests and diseases in crops naturally, the Korean JADAM cultivation system proposes various economical preparations with easily available ingredients.

Today we will delve into 3 fundamental preparations of this method: The Wetting Agent, the Herbal Solution and Liquid Sulfur.

JWA: WETTING AGENT JADAM

JADAM Wetting Agent (JWA) is not an insecticide as such, but it helps them be more effective, coating the leaves and penetrating the pest. We could say that its function is similar to that of potassium soap.

The JWA preparation process includes the use of vegetable oil, potassium hydroxide (or caustic potash), and soft water*.

A ventilated place must be made and the corresponding safety measures must be taken, such as the use of gloves and protective glasses, because the mixture of water and potassium hydroxide and water generates a reaction that produces toxic vapors.

JWA Preparation

According to JADAM Organic Farming, for preparation you should put 500 ml of soft water in a large bucket with a lid and then add 640 grams of 90% potassium hydroxide .

The mixture is closed and stirred until dissolved. Next, add 3.6 liters of vegetable oil and mix with a mini blender for about 10-20 minutes, or until a mayonnaise-like consistency is achieved.

Finally, it is left to rest for 3 days in a warm place to solidify. If after this resting process, the solution is watery or soft, it is recommended to mix it again with the mini mixer and let it rest.

Finally, 16 liters of additional water are added until it is dissolved. You can transfer it to smaller containers to preserve it and it is ready to use.

JWA application

The way to use it is to dissolve 6-30 ml per L of water, put in a sprayer and apply to the leaves.

JHS: JADAM HERBAL SOLUTION

JADAM’s herbal solution is a natural pesticide that is made from plants with strong aromas and pest repellent properties. The essence of these plants is extracted through a cooking process and then sprayed on the plants.

We have made this solution using rosemary, mint, chili, oregano, lavender and the process consists of adding the ingredients to a large pot, filling with water until everything is submerged and then adding 30% more water. It is then placed on high heat for 15 minutes and then reduced to medium heat for about 5 hours.

Finally, it is filtered, allowed to cool and stored in the refrigerator. It is applied by diluting 10 ml per liter, also foliarly once a week as a prevention, or more often if there is a pest.

ORGANIC FUNGICIDE: JADAM SULFUR

Jadam Sulfur (or in English Jadam Sulfur) is an organic pesticide that is applied by spraying on leaves and plants in general. It is especially effective against pests such as powdery mildew, powdery mildew and other fungi.

The ingredients used in the original recipe are sulfur, sodium hydroxide ( caustic soda) and a wooden stick. To make Jadam Sulfur you need the following ingredients:

  • Sulfur: 2.5 kg
  • Sodium hydroxide: 2 kg
  • Sea salt: 150 g
  • Soft water: 8.2 L

Water should first be boiled in a heat-resistant container. Once the water has begun to boil, add the sodium hydroxide and mix until completely dissolved. Next, add the sulfur and mix until it is also completely dissolved.

Once all the ingredients are completely mixed, the solution should boil for 5 hours. It is important to ensure that the container is in a safe place and that no splashes occur as the solution can be very hot and dangerous.

After the solution has boiled for 5 hours, it is allowed to cool and filtered to remove any impurities. The resulting solution can be stored in a sealed container in a cool, dark place for several years.

For use, it is recommended to dilute the solution to 0.5-1% before applying it to plants.

CONCLUSION

The JADAM method offers sustainable and environmentally friendly alternatives for pest and disease control in all types of organic crops, including cannabis.

By using these organic products, growers can ensure a final product free of toxic chemicals and beneficial to human health. Furthermore, these products help improve soil health and therefore increase the yield and quality of crops, which is why we believe that the implementation of the JADAM method is an important step towards a sustainable future in cannabis cultivation. .

*Soft water: The best option to get soft water is to use clean rainwater after 30 minutes of rain, you can also use groundwater or water from a dehumidifier or air conditioner. Of course, purified bottle water or water passed through an osmosis filter is also soft water, but it is more expensive to obtain.
