Wow those Are looking pretty darn good
Punch Pie #1 week 4: short and bushy but seeded. I guess I’ve got reason to use my hash bags now. I don’t know if the second one is a hermie as well but I decided to flip it early and get rid of the seeds.
Afghani #1:
Looks like it’s time to mow the lawn again. The clover and alfalfa were started prior to transplant of the seedlings and is just now doing its job of keeping the soil moist underneath the web of roots it has spread across the soil’s surface. And bonus effect is the decomposing “green manure” provides added nutrients back into the soil, primarily N from the clover. Fun stuff!
Cheers
Wow!!! Nice work. I like the clover and alfalfa.
So far so good with the second Punch Pie, no balls or nanners…yet!
I thought I’d flipped it too early at 9 weeks from sprout but it seems to be just right height-wise. Growth seems to be very vigorous unlike the first one. It may not look like it but I have defoliated a number of times already just to keep air flow going through.
And speaking of airflow, I’ve found an ideal spot for an oscillating fan:
Run at medium speed, it has enough power to have the whole plant wiggling nicely. You can also see how I have my secondary light set up at a semi-batwing configuration. I am theorizing that the angle of focused light will provide better penetration to the undergrowth and reduce shadows within the plant. How it will affect the final product, I don’t know. It shouldn’t harm it though.
Happy growing!
It’d be a shame if this were to turn hermie on me:
I have not experienced a single issue with this grow, she just drinks a gallon of water a day. Our cooler weather is a bonus too. I am beginning to think that seeds from hermies are viable but inconsistent in their growth behaviour. I’ll see how this turns out.
As for the seeded Punch Pie, I am surprised at how sticky the buds are with a decent high from the smoke. It just reminds me of the 1970s mexican I used to smoke in high school. Fun times.
Cheers and happy growing.
Damn, your plants always look great.
Thanks. The soil seems to keep getting better the more I use it. I was re-amending with 1/2 cup each of kelp, alfalfa, oyster shell flour and crabshell meal but with this Punch Pie, I cut that down to 1/4 cup each and it is giving me a lusher shade of green. The worms seem to be happy and chunkier than when I first put them in so I know my soil’s pH is good. I think I can start increasing plant count now.
So far so good! I would have seen signs of pistils abruptly turning color by now but it looks like she is going full term.
The twins with the main cola behind:
Main:
Beside her is an Afghani just starting to sprout hairs.
After several attempts in germinating and getting a female, this would be the first from my home made seeds.
Cheers.
Thanks for the compliments.
Anyway, just an update on the Afghani. It took 3 weeks for the pistils to start sprouting and only now are the budlets beginning to form. Scratching my head on this one as all the others have had budlets appear within a week or so.
It did stretch to twice its height and is only now forming a canopy. I did no LST on this as I wanted to see its’ natural growth progression and ultimate height.
In the meantime, the Punch Pie beside it is purring along, changing colors as she matures.
Trich content is disappointing though. I was expecting frostier. Only thing I can think of that would hinder development is the cooler and drier weather we are having here. Oh well…
Cheers and happy growing.
still out and out!a Great flower, loving the colour changing, keep smiling @canagen mate, and happy growing to:facepunch:
Update on the Afghani which I thought was slow in growth:
Just past week 8 and it looks like it could go two more. I’d forgotten how leafy this strain is but that main cola is fattening up underneath.
I had also flipped her at an earlier stage, about 9 weeks from sprout which would explain the short stature. The nodes hadn’t even started alternating yet.
Meanwhile, I’ve got this Punch Pie which I will call S2 since it came from a seeded plant. I think that is how breeders categorize their seed generations.
Should be interesting. It’s just too bad I don’t have any means to test its’ potency other than through subjective means.
Cheers and happy growing.
Out from the back burner:
The three smaller ones are Blueberry OGs and the S2 Punch Pie. It looks like this will grow full term like the S1 did. Far as I could tell, nothing was lost in potency. This S2, if it does go full term, should be an interesting smoke. Might end the myth of seeds from seeded bud being useless.
I am trying something different with this plant (and the BOG next to it) and that is strategic defoliation. If you look at the profile of the whole plant, you can see that by slowing the growth of the main cola, the secondaries stretch and catch up to the main, which evens out the canopy.
I hope this pic of the underside illustrates my point:
To illustrate what I did, I documented the same process with the BOG on the right.
Before:
After:
By clipping off the two fan leaves close to the top, it retards the growth from that point upwards and allow more light to reach the secondaries, forcing them to stretch up. Anyway, that’s my theory.
This should be an interesting end run for 2021. I have a new lineup for the coming new year; Bruce Banner #3, Gorilla Glue #4, Do Si Dos, Big Bud and Northern Storm. They should keep me occupied for the upcomg years.
Cheers and happy growing.
Looking great, I like your way @canagen , you have had some super gross and your line up to come for the new year will be great, Iv had the Bruce Banner and gorilla glue, both done nice smoke, and the gg wow, it’s just so sticky like most but this got me Gorilla Glue has been the stickiest Iv had yet, Iv got the Do,si dos with Mazar auto orange bud auto for starting my new year, and ya mate mine are autos, yours are photopariod ya!
The Big Bud and Northern Storm are autos. Figured I may as well try them out and see what the hoopla is about. They were the freebies so no big loss if they don’t pan out.
Nice one, that’s what I thought, you are more photopariod, but like you said, freebies and I think they will shock you with what you get from them, I know with your grow methods, are so on key that they will shock you, but good luck @canagen , looking faword to getting your updates on them when the time comes
Little bud from one of my Northern lights autos, which I got 3 freebies and NLA, but an easy plant to grow and ok this was just 10 weeks,
It looks as if your dog wants some of that as well. I love dogs. Anyway, a brief update on the Punch Pie S2 in which I tried different things on.
First, I wanted to keep her short since I know how tall she can get. And I did that by clipping off her major fan leaves after the 5th or 6th node. This I kept doing for 5 nodes until the secondaries stretched out to maintain an even canopy.
And I succeeded:
This is un-restrained, no topping or LST. But I also succeeded in slowing her growth and stunting her overall growth and progress. Not good! Next time, I think I will just clip off alternating nodes and see how that affects her. The pistils did not start showing after 3 weeks from flip and only now is it beginning to form budlets:
Almost looks like an auto-flower no? Should be interesting to see how this plant turns out. I guess an advantage of organics is even if one messes up a plant, it does not break the bank with wasted nutrients plus you have reconditioned your soil with more tilth. All it would need is a light re-amend. Win-win!
Cheers.
Meanwhile, the Bruce Banner I thought was gone is now in recovery mode after that disastrous attempt in prying off her shell. It doesn’t look like much but I see the first leaves finally:
If you can distinguish it from the clover that is.
Do Si Dos on its’ way:
That is done beautiful job @canagen,
But like Iv said before and I’ll say again , wouldn’t expect anything less, just big WOW
And just looking For little dos si dos looks so healthy, I know it’s only , but wow on that to, Iv got two going, autos mine are, and 1 is about 1 And a half weeks behind the other, and I had to make a home cocktail for pesticide, and think it was a bit strong, for most of my young girls but iv a Cookies Gelato fem 7 to 8 weeks veg and only chopped her 2 days ago, but I had to treat her to before the buds start, and that was able for the dose I made, it was neem oil ,baking soda, flower oil, and I’m only realising I didn’t put any soap in with that mix, I’ll take a pic to show you,
I’m some clown
