You’ve probably seen them before: plants absolutely covered in pistils, giving them that fluffy, almost “hairy” look. Some are stunning, some look wild, and some just keep stacking hairs forever
I’ve been wondering how much of this is just visual… and how much actually tells us something about the plant.
Traditionally, this kind of structure is often associated with more sativa-leaning genetics, which can mean longer flowering times and slower maturation. But with so many hybrids out there today, it’s not always that straightforward anymore.
So I’m curious about your experience:
• Have you grown or seen particularly “hairy” plants?
• Did they take longer to mature?
• Did you notice any impact on yield or bud density?
• Do you think it’s mostly genetic, or influenced by environment as well?
Feel free to share pics if you have them, specially if you tracked them in a growlog like this one. Do you see what I mean?
Well, what is there to say about that ???
It’s the second Jamaican Pearl grown from seed! Pictures are from yesterday, flowering day 55, and she’s finishing her 8th week of flowering today.
It’s a Sativa-dominant strain, where, based on the current pictures, I can say that it probably has more to do with the climatic conditions as well as the watering ???
The first of this strain was actually slightly less hairy but finished much earlier in terms of pistil coloration. It was harvested in the 10th week of flowering, and initially I thought this one, due to its still numerous bright pistils, would need several more flowering days.
Yesterday’s trichome pictures already showed many milky with amber in the sugar leaves.
The harvest window is stated as 56 to 70 days, or 9 to 11 weeks. I will definitely complete the 9 weeks of flowering with her first, and then I’ll check again.
She already provides a pleasant high, head-heavy, uplifting!
But she hasn’t reached her peak yet, and I want to get close to that!
I once had a very hairy one from the Lockdown series, whose pistils only darkened later during drying.
The Jamaican is currently still drawing all its energy from the leaves.
So I’m excited for the next 8 days, and with that, I wish you all a hairy start to the weekend. Ohhhhh it’s so hairy
