Just started my first Grow 10 days ago starting in a can starter kit. Afterwards I decided to commit to a grow tent.
I’m growing RQS Green Gelato Auto from seed in a 11l fabric pot filled with raw coco (unbuffered, unfiltered but from a reputable brand). The pot is under a ~100w full spec LED about 50cm away from leaves at 40% power.
I started the seed in a grow plug and for the first 5 days it sat on my window sill inside. This cause quite a bit of stretching and before any real leaves were growing it was over 10cm tall.
After putting the plug into my fabric pot I watered plain water for 2 days and then yesterday i gave it a small dose (about 1-1.2ml/l) of Bionova Autoflower Supermix with about 500ml of water. The plant seemed happy so this morning I gave it the same and when I went for the 2nd water i noticed that the stalk had just flipped over. I put a bit of plastic next to it to prop it up but I’m not 100% which one of my mistakes caused this. More importantly, is it worth trying to save?
I’ll add pictures + maybe my grow log if that helps
I don’t see a photo of it layed over, but one thing I could advise is water it less. Not sure what’s going on because I can’t see the pic your referring to but in most of the photos it looks too wet. They will thrive off of about 20ml of water at a time. At that age if you provide too much water they can dampen off and die or mold can form in the soil and cause a lot of problems from stagnate water that’s too far from the surface to evaporate and too far from the roots to be utilized. Can you upload a photo of how it looks right now, we can better diagnose it for you @BnEss
Hi! nice looking seedling… im not experienced with using only coco, but watch out for over watering. 500ml is a lot for a seedling. Ive experienced the same where i watered and it fell over. they can bounce back if you prop it up. maybe let it dry up a bit.
I didn’t take a picture of it flopped over, propped it back up straight away
The good news is, the day of it being propped up and the fan pointed away from it perked it up nicely. Stem is strong enough to stand on it’s own, but the leaves are still looking a little funny.
I’ll try and add a photo of it now to the grow journal, since it doesn’t seem to work inline here.
I have a bag of shish Kabab skewers in the grow room. I use them as seedling stakes so that they can lean on as they grow and don’t fall over. Sometimes they require using some gardener ties and very very loosely tie the seedling to the stake. In a couple weeks they should be good on their own.
I use skewers but anything that can stand straight in the soil could be used. I have a buddy that uses the little sticks from the Kerplunk game lol.
Right on, good news. I think @saltybud nailed it, I didn’t notice the fan up top. They can be very fragile at that age with strong winds, you can still run the fan but probably better on low and pointed away from the seedling and not oscillating until she’s a little taller and stronger, I’d assume after about 10 days you can reset the fan back to oscillate and medium speed. @BnEss
I used a skewer for a couple days and it helped, but I did a little LST later to the main stalk to get it to bend up closer from the ground. The main remaining issue is a little bit of Nitro Toxicity due to the fact I probably fed too much too early and wasn’t PHing my water. Coco has no PH buffer like soil does so it can be pretty sensitive!
