I am growing outside , I am in Oklahoma the temps are 80ish during day and low 60s at night. I have a seedling about 8inch tall. I want to keep my plant short and stubby and still produce. Any tips to a new grower?
Once the 5th set of true leaves come in,697 can top at the 4/5 node (cut the main shoot to prevent it from growing) that’ll keep it short along with some LST (low stress training) to keep it bushy. there’s lots of tips we can offer, just ask anything and we will try and answer it as best as we can. Check out my kush mix living soil and you can get an idea of the training you can do to keep your plants short
I am new to this , it is literally my first plant ever. And I have to grow it outside cause wife don’t like the smell so I am hoping it will be fine
It’ll take some time to get the hang of things as long as you stay consistent but I’ve seen some very impressive first grows on this website. Any questions feel free to ask!
I brought her inside, here in Boston Mass. had gotten cold and a Nor’easter was coming! The storm is over. Im worried about my baby!
two days ago (7/3/22) I germinated 5 seeds, and planted them in different small cups. I’ve kept the soil moist, and covered with plastic. I’ve placed outside in the shade a few hours, and brought them in. When should I expect to see them break surface, and should I keep giving it water?
Dont overwater!! It is easy to do. Let the cups dry out each time. Then, water again. Make sure there are holes in the cup, for drainage.
Give them 15 + hours of light everyday you intend to veg them.
In couple of days they should be breaking the soil.
Good luck!!
Thanks for the advice. I’m a newby! Two have broken soil, and growing quickly overnight. I won’t water until the contain dries out. One of them has really gotten tall over night (1 inche - totaling 2 inches) Is this normal? At this rate, will it be able to support itself? Neither have started producing a second set of leafs yet. What should I look for, or expect next? And when the cup dries out; do I just spray the soil, or the plant also - and how much? Thanks!
@s1m1 welcome to the community. You should post a couple pictures. Helps with pointing out any issues the community sees. They grow fast, but you want to avoid steching, so they should be under light that is intense enough for each stage of growth. As long as the seedling doesn’t stretch more than normal, it won’t have any issues supporting itself. You might want to start a new post under the growing help section too. Happy growing!
Ok…so I had a bit of an issue with my seedlings stretching. The cause was that I didnt have my lights close anough to them. I lowered the height of my lights and it worked out. It was too late for me with my Blue Dream plant as it had stretched pretty thin. When it was time for it to go in to a bigger pot and outside…I buried the stem right up to the small round leaves( cotyledons) . My blue dream is an absolute monster outside now. So dont worry…just keep the lights close…3-6 inches above plant. Others may chime in with more advice. Monitor regularly for burn or heat stress.
As for water…I was using a small sprayer and I would just moisten the top layer of soil every couple of days. A tip that was mentioned to me was- you can always add more water/ nutrients, etc…but you CANNOT take it away once added. Sound advice for every stage of growing. Pick up a dry cup…remember that weight. Then, water your girl…pick up the cup again and remember that weight. From my experience and I am also pretty new to growing, is that we newbs tend to over water and over nurture the girls, early on. I know I sure did and killed 2 seedlings by overwatering.
Here are a couple pics of the Blue Dream I started from seed. The first pic it is way too stretched out a couple weeks before it went outside. The second pic I took a couple of days ago. I am amazed at how well this girl bounced back. I have topped and fimmed her a few times and use LST and super cropping. But those are lessons for another day!!
You will get through the seedling stage in no time!!
Good luck. Keep us posted!!
Same… have my seeds in my grow tent on damp paper towels checking every few hours ….no tap roots yet ….impatiently waiting
Hey guys…. I’m now using a 15w fluorescent bulb. It’s about 10 -12 inches from my plants. Is that close enough to? I posted two new pics today… How do they look? Oh two other things! 1st Is 15 watts okay? Should it be higher, or lower? 2nd At this stage, how long should I leave the light on?
I’m not sure about that type of light as I have never used it. As for timing…you can leave you lights on for 24 hours if you like. Other will go 18 hours on 6 off or a combination of long light period to short dark period. As long as the young plants get 15 or more hours of direct light each day…they should not flip in to flower.
This is just what I did this year but you can figure out what works for you…
We started our seeds in water, then to wet paper towel then to solo cups in a tent. Once in the tent we went with 18 on and 6 off. This was in March. As we got closer to taking them outdoors…we gradually adjusted our light/dark schedule to match the natural daylight hours. 18/6, 17/7, 16/8…we put ours out a bit early and kept an eye on the weather. All is good!!
I understand that there is supposed to be a “hardening off” period but we said F it. We put our seedlings outside each day in the cups and small pots in direct sun. They absolutely loved it. Keeping in mind…the sun isnt as intense in Early May so it was a calculated risk.
