Hello! So, my first grow that is almost done I used the fox farms dirty dozen and it seemed to work great with minimal issues. Should I keep rolling with that or does anyone have recommendations as far as something easier, cheaper, better, etc? Curious to see what everyone uses!
We are on our first grow as well and we were suggested Strive Nutrients. The plants seem to really like it. But if you’re happy with what you have, keep rockin and rollin!
Thanks! I’ll check those out. I think the fox farm nutes were great but feel like it was irritating to measure and mix 7 different nutes just to feed them every week. Not complaining just feel like it could be easier lol
Looked at their site and seems like it’s exactly what I’m looking for!
It looks like the 2 pack is about $50. Any idea how long that would last for 3 plants?
Lol i know how you feel i also used/semi use foxfarm nutes but it will murder your soil over time so i switched to down to earth dry ammendments and trying roots organic terp tea bloom and uprising bloom and so far no issues and im probably switching to roots organic line. The FF nutes i like as well no complaints and there soil is pretty good as well but im able to grow 12 plants legally at a time and rather not spend $300 just in soil every grow. And the roots organic feeding is very simple. But there are lots of good brands like strive and others so itll come down to what your comfortable with
So the company you use is “roots organic”?
I see they’re like coco pots? And then you add the bloom nutes?
Thats the nute line im switching to i believe the company name is aurora but if you google roots organics itll give there website Im using foxfarm oceanforest soil and extra worm castings and perlite along with down to earth dry ammendments and during veg this year i have used some FF grow big,big bloom, calmag and using there beastie blooms as a booster but wanting to use a nutrient line that is also good for the microbial life in my soil as well as easy to apply and roots organics is very simple and is working great so far. Next year im hoping to have good knowledge of the dry amendments so i can get off the bottled nutes.
There are really good bottle nutes out there so dont let me steer you in a particular direction im more focused on my soil thats all. Plants will take and love nutes regardless how they get it
Yes sir! We have 2 girls growing right now and its plenty! And we are happy so far! We are growing in Fox Farm Ocean Forest soil.
Just ordered the ocean forest soil and the strive nutes. Wanna give them a shot because I like the simplicity
Be sure to add some perlite to the soil so you have good airation like 20% to your mix will do the trick
If your looking to keep your soil year after year. Go with pumice instead of perlite. Perlite will break down after a couple cycles.
Thanks for that info and would i use same percentage as perlite?
So I can reuse soils for a couple grows? Anything special I need to do?
You could. But, I’d use different size pumice to mix it up. Ill mix in some 3/8 size pumice in some more smaller ones to change up the consistency.
Im not sure which soil recipe you use.
I prefer a 33% sphagnum, 33% worm castings/ compost, and 33% aeration ( i prefer to use more then one type of aeration. Multi size pumice, some perlite, and rice halls) rice halls only if i find a good deal. Has to be Sterilized.
After thats all combined. I add in the amendments and minerals.
If i was just buying a potting soil out of a bag. Then id just add in a eye ball amount of pumice to the already made mix. I feel like there is never enough aeration in the premade bags.
I don’t know how many grows I’ve done now, but I’ve used FF liquid and water soluble trios since the beginning and have had great success with them. I also use Botanicare CalMag Plus.
My advice is to use one line and stick to it. The longer I grow, the less qty it seems I use of my nutes. The plants don’t seem to require as much as you might think. Ive learned to feed whar the plant needs, and not a set amount over and again. Each plant strain is different and will have slightly different requirements.
Good to know! Yeah, I think I’m doing a lot less than I should but plants doing good. I only do the nutes recommended for 1 gallon but feed with 2 or 3 gallons. That’s for three plants in flower right now. I didn’t want to overdo it on my first grow. I’ve learned so much tho and finding this app has been a godsend. So many knowledgeable people nice enough to answer dumb questions that beginners like myself ask lol
We were all newbies once.
