Pest Control: Fungus Gnats (family Sciaridae )

Anyone knowledgeable with fighting fungus gnat (family Sciaridae), I’ve got some in my grow. I installed sticky traps to catch them. Any biological pest control that I show be using?

All the help is welcomed.

Hi, You can add nematodes to the soil. These are useful helpers in the long term.

I recommend nemaknights nematodes. Easy to apply and very effective. I do 2 treatments a week apart.

Perfect! Thank you very much, the fuckers aren’t reducing their population. I’m going to try this.

Thank you!!!

Water bowls with apple cider vinegar and dish soap. Killed tons of them this summer.

Nematodes work great. Fungus gnats come from over watering and water puddle in the tent…

I wouldn’t take vinegar, soap or baking soda. Yes it helps, but it also kills all your beneficial microbes and you lose the control over the pH value for the rest of your grow.

Good luck and happy growing! :v::slightly_smiling_face:

Great advice but those ingredients go in a dish or cup and sit on top of the soil or in the tent. It never impacts the soil at all. But that’s just population control. Nematodes treat at the source which is why I always recommend them.

Diatomaceous earth is another great way of killing them off completely, top dress with that and they can’t reproduce. It breaks down into silica for your plant too

I think you should use a combination of the suggestions. The vinegar bowl for the effect and nematodes for the cause. Water more sparingly. You’ll have some peace and quiet. I can proudly say that I’ve almost finished a grow without any major problems. From start to finish I prevented outside influences as much as possible, i.e. I kept nature out. Then treat the soil before the grow to remove microbes etc. and above all feed the plant well, then it will be very resilient.

Wow… I’m speechless…

Treating the way you suggested is probably what would work the best. As for microbes I innoculate my soil with microbes before every single grow. But I’m also running organic inputs, I’m assuming you feed synthetic.

Nope, Just Organic

I like to innoculate my medium a couple different times throughout the grow. That way I know they have a healthy population. I feed them every week or two to keep them fed and healthy. Happy growing.

How do you feed them? I didn’t know that was a thing. I’m sure mine want to be fed too. This is why I love growing, always something new to learn!

Use diatomaceous earth on the soil should help

Only effective until it gets moisture in it then it becomes a cake-y paste

I use a few different things to feed the microbes. I use molasses, honey, and Advanced Nutrients carboload, and Bud candy. I pick 2 each time I feed, usually, it’s molasses and bud candy.

Nothing out there works like TDrops for fungus gnats. 1 dose and done. 2 drops per gallon of water every time you water and you will never deal with fungus gnats again.

I’ve been using LiftBMC and SF Nematodes this grow. It seems to work well together. I’ve been better about my watering practices too though. I hear that’s the real trick is adequate dry cycle. The larvae need a certain amount of moisture for I think about a week or they don’t make it.
