Project Reclaim the dehumidifier water

I use a bunch of ro water and it gets expensive. I keep dumping gallons down the toilet and I got to thinking "what if I clean the shit out of my AC and dehumidifier and keep it clean and filter the water and reuse it.

I started looking at Berkeley and that was too expensive. After some inputs, Chat gtp came up with this kit from shtf and go. Made in the USA! $38

Just uses two food grade buckets I got at home Depot cheap, under $6. Amazon is sold out of the kit, but I think you can get it directly from shtf and go.

I am going to clean my coils with peroxide and simple green coil cleaner to save filter life.

I will use this about 2-3 times a year and use straight 3% hydrogen peroxide every month.

The water in the tanks after cleaning will be discarded and the tanks cleaned.

It might be more work, but it will help me feel better about my water usage. Why not, I am a disabled veteran with tons of time and limited funds.

I did a very lazy version of this recently when I had to go away for work. The water that my last run was flushed with was nearly all straight from the dehumidifier. I set it up with the drain hose running straight into the autopot res and the wife said she barely had to add anything to it over the week. I have no idea how it would work out long term but in my limited test it worked really well. I would be very interested to see your results taking it more seriously.

That’s amazing. I want you kind folks to share experiences like this on this platform. I am a member of several forums, but keep finding my way back to GWJ.

Sharing what works and your failures, along with the journey, is what we all should be doing. I bet many people have never even thought about putting the drain hose straight into the tank. Bravo, sir, bravo.

I put it together. Super simple.

Top pics bottom bucket. Bottom 2 top bucket.

Total cost: filter kit from shtf and go $38.14
Buckets and lids from home Depot $23.46

You will pay 10% more for the buckets and lids if you are not a vet so 25.81 approx.

So just under 65 bucks.

Next step clean the coils. Amazon fucked up my shipping. Must have bust it open. Clean the tank on my dehumidifier, my AC unit has a food grade buckets, fresh. Then test the water.

You can actually pick up a similar filter on temu for under 10 bucks. I choose this one because it’s impregnated with silver. It helps with bacteria and fungal growth.

I am also going to filter my rain water with it
