Pursuit of finos

Today while doing a little research on collecting plants or Fino’s as somebody call them of a particular trait that you liked. I was watching a video of a well-known grower on how he accomplished this

In this particular video he was growing his plants photo. That is and flip them over to flowering during the flowering stage he found a particular plant that he wanted to preserve.

After harvesting he then left a few nugs on the plant in front of it back over to reveg. As the plant accomplished vegging He’s in proceeded to take his clones from it. I agreed up into this point not saying that I am right now this is how I’ve done it for years. The part I disagree with is he said to save a clone for a mother plant at this point he lost me. We all agree that a clone is the exact same as the plant you extracted it from.

I don’t understand his point of making one of the clones his mother plant. My thinking is why not continue using your existing mother plant? In my opinion you’re not going to lose nothing but you’re going to gain time with taking the young from your existing mother. Am I thinking correct here or have I been doing something wrong for a long time?

The growth that comes from a plant that has flowered and then reveged can be very unpredictable, messy and more difficult to maintain over a longer period if keeping it for a mother. That is the main reason I can think of to take a clone and maintain that instead.

I think your assessment is correct.
