I’m still new to growing cannabis plants and I have a silly question: Can I determine if the plant is ready for harvest by cutting off 2-3 buds, drying them in the oven, and then smoking them?
Please don’t make fun of me…

Welcome to the community and don’t worry about getting made fun of here, you’re in a good place! Best way to tell is by looking at the trichomes with a loupe of usb microscope. You just need something with at least 30x zoom to be able to check the trichomes to see if they’re cloudy with some amber
Don’t worry bud you’ve found a safe space here, I call these guys the Avengers because the community here will make up for any form of cyber hooliganism that you’ve come across. You’re safe🤝🏾
Maybe post a picture then we can maybe assist in terms of helping you spot things of that nature, I still sometimes struggle myself (largely due to impatience😅)
I just realized that they translated this topic from German I’m assuming? @ELI that feature is so amazing I didn’t even realize it was translated till I got the notification on my comment and saw the initial subject is in a different language. What an amazing feature to help this community!
Also saw from the notification😅
I also meant to ask if a “slight effect” is already noticeable even with trichomes that are “not yet ready”?
I’m sure you’d get a little high but it would probably taste like shit. My thought is that you did all this work and spent all that time, so it’s worth waiting a little extra to get that perfect harvest
I use a dehydrator set at 105°f and I take a few lower buds. If those give you the effect you want then the whole plant is ready. Checking trichomes is truly the way to go but I do this when plants have gone far past the harvest date. Like right now I’m 23 days past the recommended harvest date provided by the breeder so I’m testing 1x a week.
The oven always ruined it for me. I have taken a couple of lower buds and dried them in a paper bag in the sun for the day and that works. Also sitting them on top of my xbox was effective. It’s not going to taste anything like it would when dried properly but it will give you a decent idea of the effects.
I do the whole thing in the air fryer, at 30-40 degrees. An hour. Cut the flowers into small pieces beforehand for a larger surface area when drying.
After that, they are quite crispy but dry quickly and relatively gently.
And yes, proper hanging is always the preferred method.
But we all surely know that sometimes you want to try it quickly ![]()

If you have neither a magnifying glass nor a microscope, wait two weeks longer than the maximum flowering time your breeder indicates for your strain, then it should really be ready.
