Brand new grower looking for suggestions. Should my dwc be topwatering continuously untill roots poke out pot? Also should i be concerned with the appearance or slow growth of my plant?
2.5 weeks. Unknown seed (been saving seeds for years)
Germinated papertowel method. Then transferred to jiffy puck before i realized i should have used rockwool as i am growing in a hydroponic setup.
First 2 weeks spent in seedtray /jiffy. when transferring to net pot / clayy media. Bottom 1.5" of taproot broke off when washing soil from roots.
I split a piece of rockwool and put in seedling and into hydro setup.
First 2 weeks just watered jiffy puck from bottom only when needed w ph ed tap water.
Since transfer to hydro seems plant has started shooting new roots from break but i have definitely stressed this plant. Picture is this am 3 days in hydro w 1/2 dose flora trio nutrients along w calimag and hyroguard at their recommend normal dose per gallon.
PH 6.0. Checked and Adjusted daily if needed. This plant is going really slow and discoloration and spots probably realated to root stress.
Temps 72 to 78 during light (18/6 schedule) dips to 65 ish. Humidity constantly between 70 and 80.
Led full spectrum s33 ionboard 36" from top of plant measuring 300 PPFD Thanks in. Advance for any advice or suggestions.
First…she can survive.
The JiffyPuck is not the best medium compared to water, you are right, but actually not your problem.
The pH is perfect, but not so many nutrients, please.
First of all, you switch to table water and to your PH value.
The light is too direct, and set it to 20 hours, better to 24 hours for 1 week. (We cannot see the distance to the light at this picture.)
The color of the leaves is terrible at the moment, but she is in “lock mode”.
If you rinse the medium and roots frequently, girls have a chance.
Can you change it?
Thank you!! I will edit with this info and add to post. LED samsung s33 ionboard full spectrum Light is around 36" from top of plant measures 300 ppfd on photone app. Could you explain rinsing? I can change up just didn’t want to stress this plant anymore than it has without recommendations on how to approach it.
Update on situation. Rinsed twice w ph 6 tap water. Rechecked ph in reservoir an hr later ph was a little high from my normal 6.0 / 6.5. So ill be flushing and monitoring for the next week. Good news is the 2 shoots are starting to show between the top pair. Thank you for getting me pointed in the right direction!! Also extended light schedule to 19/5 and will bump it up another hr in a few days. Would you recommend removing those bottom 2 nasty looking leaves so the plants not wasting energy?
Hello. I don’t DWC, but in my opinion on plant health: keep those bottom leaves on. Give the plant time to abort the leaf itself and to use up what’s stored in them. Those bottom 4 make up the majority of your leaf mass. You should avoid defoliating more than 30% at a time. 20% is safe, but a quick glance and that looks like about 40%. If you’re feeling inclined, I’d say you could safely remove 1 per week.
6 days later this is it. What do you guys think? Any suggestions?
Light at plant 300 ppfd 19/5 sched
still topwatering only 15 min in am and 15 min in pm. Still no roots at bottom of net pot.
Ph is 6.0 to 6.5. Water level is at bottom of pot.
I removed the bottom 2 leaves
Keep your pH between 5.8 and 6.3 and you should be good. Hydro requires a lower pH than soil does. Some people do 5.8 for veg and raise it to 6.3 in flower. Find yourself a hydro pH chart from Google or Bing and check it out. Happy growing
Thanks for the info. My ph is slowly rising and tds and ppm are too. im guessing plants starting to take nutrients. It looks great today. Temps been warmer last 2 days and it has grown noticeably. Got my first set of 5 coming out now. Im doing a nutrient change this weekend in this 1 and setting up number 2. It just got its first 2 a couple days agot next 2 are popping out so a few more days before it goes in
