Seedling stage zzzz

Do others agree that, whilst important, that the first 2-3 weeks of seedling stage are really boring? A tiny bit of pH water every 3-4 days and that’s it. Nothing to do - too soon for LST, topping, nutrients. Just have to be patient and wait for the faster growth in veg.

I fully agree, the only thing that really builds the excitement is whether it germinates or not and then the air is out :joy:

Its my least favourite part of every round as well

I grow in coco, so I fertigate seedlings twice a day with light nutes, a schedule that induces a lot of boring “watching the pot” time, so to speak. It starts to get exciting once there’s a node or two above the cotyledons

I agree. Fortunately my White Widow is just on its 2nd node so almost out of the boredom zone. On a related note, I just realised how easy it is to overwater with a seedling in its final pot. I did the little circle around the seedling and then kept going in outer rings aiming for runoff but I think that was a mistake as the pot is heavy. I think I’ll need to wait 4-5 days before I rewater. Any thoughts anyone?

You could let the fan blow over the pot to evaporate more water

Good idea. Thanks!

How big is your final pot for seedlings? What is your growing medium?

I’m in garden center soil/perlite 70/30 mix in a 5L fabric pot at 21C and 60-65% RH. PPFD is at 250 with 150w LED at 35% and 35cms

Five liters seems too big for a seedling. I’ve read that the main root grows down until hit hits the bottom of the pot before starting to spread out, so it’s best to pot up gradually in order to fill more soil with roots. Besides, it takes more water than a seedling or young plant needs.

Maybe I’ve misunderstood how old your girls are?

No, you’ve understood well. This is my 3rd grow so I’m trying a different method of starting directly in the final pot as set out by Nebula in Grow Weed Easy. Till now I’ve started in small pots and transplanted. I’ll see how it goes this time and then may go back to start small and transplant for my next one.
