Should I remove any of the fan leaves?

Hi All! These 2 plants are about 3 weeks into veg. The taller gorilla glue is about 6.5 inches and the Bruce banner is about 5.25 inches. The Bruce banner is very bushy and the big fans seem to be blocking out the bud sites below. The gorilla glue is also some what bushy, but not like the bb. Just wondering if I should snip some of the big, older fans yet? The pics uploaded wrong. The first and last pictures are the gorilla glue.

You can remove it, if plant is too bushy. I always do this

Trimming an auto flower isn’t recommended. But, you can trim it though.

I trim my autos all the time, go for it.

If they are covering buds I try to tuck them out of the way, first. If tucking is not an option I will remove them.

You sure can trim your bush but not at this point because your plant is way too young for that. You would only want to remove the lower fan leaves at this stage, if they are touching the soil and getting in the way of you watering them. In that case, you should only remove the ones that are in your way only! When your plant is this young it uses those fan leaves to catch the light and convert photosynthesis to usable energy.

I trim mine very heavily but I only start after about 3 or 4 weeks I will remove the very bottom fan leaves just to give me some more room when watering because they get too big and in the way. Also some strains get very dense and with those I try to trim out the main stem to create some airflow to open it up because it gets way too bushy and sometimes some leaves get yellow because they get no light penetrating through such a dense bush.

For my feminized plans I wait until they grow out until 4 or 5 nodes and then I top it on third node which creates eight main colas. Then I trim the bottom leaves a little bit later, then I make sure all of my plants are even height and flat top by trimming them until the top becomes flat and then I match the other plants to have the same height and flat top so when they flip to flower they grow out evenly and every bud gets even amount of light. I defoliate three times…1st at day 0 when flipping to flower 12/12 lighting, 2nd at day 18-21, and final 3rd time at day 40-45 of flower stage. When I defoliate I take off every single leave except the very top two or four leaves stay on because that’s new growth and you can’t take those off. If you’d like to learn more about topping and defoliating, you should go to the website I’m going to give you right now and at the top click on “education” tab and find “grow along” videos and then find “defoliating” and/or “topping” videos and those guys are going to show you step by step how to do these things properly without damaging your precious plants  www.blackdogled.com

If you going to do it anyway then do it only to one plant and see how it behaves/reacts because if you get it stunned, you’ll only ruin one plant and not all of them. I hope this helps!

I did end up taking some of the bigger fans off these ones. Although they look very young, they’re both in week 5 or 6 of veg now. I think I actually stunted them as seedlings putting them too close to intense light. Now they’re just my learning/experiment plants. I germinated 2 others a month after these 2 and those plants are already as big as these! I will keep these ones going for now, but if they don’t grow at all, I will probably stop wasting the time and nutrients on them. Will give them another week. Thanks!

Yes, you got it right that you gave them some type of shock that they are growing so slow and the fact that you took off those fan leaves you gave it even more shock by doing that. Anytime you take off leaves or do some type of low stress training or high stress training, they all give your plans stress so you have to be sure your planned is very healthy before you start doing these things because you will stunned it even more.
That’s a good idea, give then another couple of weeks and if the plants that you planted after these stunned ones end up outgrowing your stunned plants then if I were you I would just throw them in the garbage and start two fresh ones. You’ll end up wasting your nutrients, time, energy, and patience when you could just start over and in the long run you’ll get better results and they will end up growing faster than those two retards anyway . I hope this helps.

Here’s a recommendation:
If you’re not using them already then I highly recommend buying FISH SHIT, MAMMOTH P, and either GREAT WHITE or DYNOMYCO. If you are tight on the budget then at least get fish shit and dynomyco, you’ll have phenomenal results. Dynomyco is a new product and it outperforms great white by far because it’s highly concentrated on like great light that only has 83 g per propaguel where dynamico has 900 g per propagule which is a huge difference. Also great white has Ectomycorrhiza and Endomycorrhiza but most of their concentration is in ectomycorrhiza which has no effect on cannabis plants at all. This is where dynomyco stands out because it’s tuned specifically for cannabis plants and the results it produces it blows great white out of the water! Here’s their link:
Mycorrhizal Inoculant by DYNOMYCO™ – High Performing Strains – Concentrated Formula – Improves Nutrient Uptake – Increases Plant Yields Enhances Resilience to Stress Saves Fertilizer (750 g / 26.05 Oz) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0829YHW8K/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_0RAKHZJFB0C6AJ7WTK4R

For your soil I also highly recommend adding dolomite lime because it has calcium and magnesium unlike regular lime that only comes with calcium and mix two cups with one bag of soil like 2 cu ft size. Also add more perlite like 4 liters per 1 bag. Here’s a great perlite:
Enhanced Perlite with Diatomaceous Earth and Plant Food for Potting Soil Mix, Live Plants, and Indoor Gardens – Hydroponic - Harvest Hero – 12 Quarts https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09862RDC7/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_HFBEVA656SA51H8A30HW

And here’s Dolomite Lime:
Down to Earth Organic Prilled Dolomite Lime, 5 lb https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07N2X9BV2/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_ACE4GD8ZQ5TV5PM9BBQ3?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

Happy growing!

Honestly best bet is to just trial and error, you can’t learn unless you make mistakes. Was the biggest hurdle I’ve had to overcome since my journey began.

You’re absolutely right, the best way to learn is to make mistakes and learn from them. I’m a real estate investor and this is what I tell my new folks that join my team, I tell them to not be scared to make mistakes and make as many mistakes as possible and from the very beginning to get them out of the way now, so they don’t make those mistakes later because later they’re going to be a lot more expensive. So yes, trial and error is the best teacher :+1:t3:

Just took a picture of my girls @ day 10 in flower. They seem to have bounced back nicely after my intense foliar feeding for 6 days every night at lights off with CalMag, Silica, Yucca and waited an hour, then one more time with Ful-Power, Kelp, CalMag, Yucca. Today they look much much better, almost at 100% it seems like :point_down:t3:
