Suggestions: Germination tips

I got some bunk seed from Mephisto Genetics and got one to start. I have been having problems with germination and have seen some strange stuff.

First off my orientation of the seed in media was weak. crater side up and pointy side down. I don’t have the greatest eyes so I blow it up with my phone and use a toothpick to move the seed gently

Mycorrhiza under the seed so when the root emerges its instantly covered.

First testing chamber: Shot glass with one part hydrogen peroxide, two parts Clean water. that will give you 1% hydrogen peroxide. Before I put it in the shot glass I scuff the ridge lightly. don’t go nuts. this is the hardest part of the seed and where it will split open.

Drop that power plant in the shot glass. bubble will start to form around the seed. that’s the oxygen from the peroxide and the seed exchanging air for water. It has begun. push the seed down a few times during the next 18 hours, if it takes that long.

I have not seen a seed sink yet but when its below the water line, and has little bubbles around it , bam, it’s about to pop.

drain it into a paper towel, after it pops, and its ready to be placed in its new home. Mine is a Germination Chamber, Super cheap, but I have 20 led light pucks. Upgrade.

I have not started a seedling with these pucks on 24/7 from the get. we shall see.

Germination tip:
If you have to do anything to a seed other than plant it like any regular garden seed to produce a plant . . . you have bad or old seeds.

Good healthy seeds will see a 90+ % germination rate without any special treatment if they are planted at proper depth and kept warm and moist. Personally, I haven’t soaked, scuffed a seed or used paper towels in years . . . just put them in cubes, water and wait . . . if the seed comes from good stock it will grow. If it fails so be it, I want strong healthy plants and I don’t feel those come from seeds that have to be pampered and babied to reach germination.

I agree, I have wasted a bunch of time and effort on these seed companies. Maybe it’s time to start reaching out to some of the people I know on overgrow, they are always looking to get people to try their seeds
