Hi guys i have just installed a greenhouse i want run a 18/6 light cycle for veg. In Johannesburg we receive about 12 hours of light perfect for flower however veg i need supportive light. I want to run solar led lights to supplement 6 hr of light i want to know what watt should i get and what are the pros and cons … happy growing…
Hi there,
English isn’t my native tounge so I’m sorry for any misspellings. It realy depends on the area you have in your greenhouse. And not all LED have the efficacy so you might have a problem by just going by watts. I can’t say much about pros and cons though, because I only do indoor grows.
Do you have any specifc grow lights in mind and how large is the area you want to illuminate?
Hi thank you for the assistance
So the greenhouse is a 12 x 3 x 2
So im looking at a led solar light to fill out 4x3x12 as the greenhouse is separated and i cant rely on electricity as we experience power outages regularly(load shedding)
As long as the solar led has a good light spectrum you should be good. In normal grow lights you’d be looking for 30 to 50 watt per square foot. I guess going for the lower end should do the trick, as you only need it for supplementing in the vegetative stage, where you only need PPFD of 300-600 μmol/m²/s.
This makes life so much easier thank you
