Hey everyone so with this grow I’m using roots organics lush soil and I haven’t had to feed yet but it’s getting close to feeding time. I have these terp teas that are from roots organics as well. I have a veg tea and a bloom tea. I know I need to brew the tea with a air pump and stone and what not but what I’m confused about is seeing people mix molasses in when brewing a tea. Is that a normal thing and should I pick some up? Just looking for any help tips on tea feedings or top dressing
As I understand it, the molasses is food for the microbes in organic grows. Ive done the occasional tablespoon of molasses per gallon of water. Im going on 13 weeks since seed pop and have done 2 or 3 molasses feeds… maybe I should do more? Idrk as this is my first grow. You dont need a pump or stone for mopasses. Just heat up the water to mix and let it cool before feed.
I have a compost tea recipe that I use on my plants and molasses helps feed the healthy bacteria in the tea to help the plants grow. About a tablespoon in a 5 gallon bucket feeds a lot of bacteria.
When I would brew teas for my plants, I usually use 1/2 cup each of worm castings and kelp meal plus 1T of molasses (per gallon of water) aerated overnight. I use a regular aquarium pump and aerate maybe a liter or so of the tea. This gives better aeration and agitation after which I add enough water to make up the gallon.
As stated, the molasses feeds the microbes in your tea as well as in your soil. I’ve never used the type of media you are using but it looks peat based and amended with worm castings etc… You can top-dress with the dregs of your tea then water it in. Beware kelp and castings attract gnats so…
