Trichomes turning before pistils

Hi everyone,

Still a newbie with all this - this is my 3rd grow.

Just checked my zkittlez auto this morning and it seems some of the trichomes have started to go over to amber but only a few of the pistils have turned orange.

It’s taken me a bit of guard as I thought I still had another 2/3 weeks left - but I’m thinking I should harvest now. Is it common for trichomes to change before the pistils?

Any advice would be greatly received.

Cheers

Make sure you’re checking the trichromes on the bud not the leaves. The trichromes on the leaves will turn quicker that on the buds

Ohh perfect! It’s the trichomes on the leaves that are starting to go over. I’ll take a closer look later on. Thanks for your help!

@Wargoat beat me to the punch hehe… many have made/still make the mistake of checking the trichomes on the sugar leaves instead of the bud.

I’m not going to lie, it takes some effort to get a good close up picture of the trichomes. I use a small digital microscope, strapped to a microphone stand, so that i can maneuver the microscope into the tent up against a bud, then take a picture using my phone (digital microscope connected wifi to my phone)

I’ve whist looked at the flower with my loupe but it’s shaky as anything! I saw enough to known they haven’t gone amber - but I think they are mostly milky.

Do you tend to harvest the whole plant as soon as you start to see them going over?

Everyone has a personal preference/comes to a personal preference eventually. It depends on the type of effect you want to get from the medicine.

Some people harvest when all trichomes are cloudy/milky starting to amber, some people harvest with 10%-30% amber…

Thanks for the info. I’ve got a Bluetooth microscope coming tomorrow so I’ll get some pics and report back.

Depends on you. Could go another week or two. When in doubt what a week.

I was thinking that quite a few of the trichomes look clear still esp. in photo 2. Might give it a week and just keep monitoring to see when they start going over.

I would wait about a week… just take notes and learn from your harvests.
